Preparation for Blue Slip

Recommended Posts

Well, we are down to final prep for the interview. I know I have read about window 30, and some steps to take if one gets a blue slip.

I am convinced that things should be fine, but would like to advise the wife, what things to do if she does get a blue slip.

I believe she will have all the paperwork with her, but I understand that sometimes they don't always ask for everything.

Anyway, any advise for a good plan for dealing with a blue slip would be very useful right now.

Thanks.

Here's my advice:

BEFORE INTERVIEW:

- Set the expectation with your SO that the approval process is either one step or can possibly be more. This is not uncommon, although most do get approval in one step (ie: interview).

- Overcome should not be viewed as much as a denial but more as a need for more time by the VO to review something; often they will ask for some more documentation or something you brought (to be reviewed in more detail than the interview allows them).

- Overcome is not another interview, but a drop-off of the requested documents... so no need to prepare for anything face-to-face

- If you will be in GUZ, then you can prepare to go to the American Citizen Hour to ask questions yourself. Review this link so you know what to be able to schedule this into your plans:

DURING INTERVIEW:

- The window #30 issue was commented on by GUZ here:

http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=16923

- Try to leave the interview on an 'positive note'.. Thank the VO for their time, ask where is Window #30 so some questions can be asked, state that the necessary documents will be collected and turned in.

- Utilize window #30 as much as possible to clearly understand what the slips are asking.

AFTER INTERVIEW:

- Get together and assure your SO first. Talk about how this will simply continue into Plan B (part II) of the approval process.

- Ask questions on CFL or whereever you have some available input as a cross check for past experience.

- Collect the necessary documents and be as thorough as needed, but careful not to go overboard.

OVERCOME APPOINTMENT:

New Procedure for Additional Material Submission

http://www.usembassy-china.org.cn/guangzho...new.html#addmat

Starting September 15, applicants asked to submit additional materials for their immigrant visa will need to schedule an appointment. Please call the U.S. Visa Information Center at 4008-872-333 within China or 86-21-3881-4611 from other countries, from 7 A.M. to 7 P.M. (Monday - Friday) and 8 A.M. to 5 P.M. (Saturday) for an appointment. Applicants must provide: names in Chinese characters and pin yin, case number, ID card number, passport number, phone number, and date of birth. There is a charge to access the Visa Information Center. Prices are 54 RMB for 12 minutes or 36 RMB for 8 minutes. The Visa Information Center charge may be paid at any CITIC Bank office or on the Internet at https://www.usavisainformation.com.cn/eng/index.aspx. Once the charge is paid, you will be given a PIN number that must be given to the Visa Information Center when you call to verify the payment. The U.S. Visa Information Call Center currently can assist callers in Mandarin, Cantonese, Taishanese, and English.

STEPS:

Here are some steps provided by another member for how to do the actual overcome:

1. You make an appointment with the consulate for submitting docs to overcome denial.

Your wife can buy a prepay card from her local Citic Bank, there are RMB54 or RMB36 cards available. They charge for making an appointment.

Prepare the following information before making a call:

1). Her passport number

2). her name, both in Chinese and pin yin, her birthdate and ID number which are on her passport

3). Her Case Number which begins with GUZ 200.....,

Visa category (CR1, I believe)

Date of denial

Then their call center will give her an Appointment Number and the date to submit docs

2. She will get the result in two days.

The result is possibly to be:

1). Ok, red slip, she can pick up her visa in two days

2). They want more docs or any stuff they can brainstorm

3). The case be returned to DHS

4). Depends on the VO

I would expand the "during the interview" a bit.

If she gets a blue slip she should discuss the issue(s) with the VO until she is absolutely sure she understands what the issue is and what is required. Then I would advise her to sit down in the interview waiting area, think things through again, and see if there is evidence in the 20 kilo kitchen sink package she has been lugging that would answer the problem. If there is, I would bring the blue slip and the evidence to window 30.

If the requested item to overcome is something that could be obtained in a few minutes outside of the interview hall you could try asking for a pass to go out and re enter. This would most likely be completing/correcting a form or something like that. My Lao Po did get a pass out but that was before the interview. There is a form GZ uses for this with a number of reasons (complete form, get photo, etc) plus "other". I don't recall anyone getting a pass out and returning after a blue slip but it would be worth a try.

Hey frank, when my wife was in GUZ she had all her papers checked by the man who owns the hotel near the embasy. He said everything looked good, all that she needed was the 3 C's. confidence confidence and confidence. Dont show any personal information if you are seeking any guidance by anyone except by a lawyer.
