Interview for Green Card

Recommended Posts

Is it with you? If I remember right, hers is an asylum-related AOS, so you may not be required.

I have a couple of interview descriptions printed out, but they may not pertain to her case. I'll try to find them in the meantime.

I think my other one came from VJ. Let me know if you need a copy.

I am adjusting her status from Asylum to married, as with just Asylum staus, she cannot travel to China and return. It can take up to 8 years for an Asylee to finally be granted the chance for a green card. Because Asylee's are allowed to live in the US forever, as long as they do not commit a felony, they are placed at the bottom of the Immigration list for granting interviews. Only 3500 Asylee's were given green cards last year.

Lieqin hasn't returned to China in over 5 years. Her mother is 87 and recently fell and broke both forearms, due to osteoporosis. I want to give her the chance to return to China, while her mother is still living.

I have hired an immigration attorney to process her AOS. He says that her review should be processed quick, being that she's been here legally for 5 years.

The list of questions that Jim posted are what I suspected would be asked. I prompted Leiqin with a few of them and she pretty much choked up. First from her lack of English and second from the siqnificance of the outcome, (certainly, much of what your SO's have felt facing GZ).

I'll be talking to the attorney this Saturday. I'm sure he'll prepare us too. I just wanted to get the best information from the best source that I know and that's from my friends here.

Thanks

Not sure what kind of questions she may get Dennis, as her case is different than ours. For us, the AOS interview was not much. Just a couple of questions about our address and the port of entry. That's about all.

Hope all goes well. Keep us posted as to how things go.

My wife's friend from school was asked:

"What's the color of your husband's underwear he

is wearing today."

I told Leiqin to answer; "He doesn't wear underwear, as he keeps getting tied up in his."

LOL.

I kept waiting for a question like this, or "What side of the bed do you sleep on?", but all we got was basically stuff confirming what was on the application - name, address, parents' names (there's a more complete list in my AOS interview thread), and a couple of questions about how we met and what we were doing now.

Dennis and Leiqin,

I remembered seeing this someplace, and just found it.

The I-797C (Request to appear for interview) has a rather long list of items to bring with you. Did you receive the I-797C, or does your lawyer have it?

The first part states:

If you do not speak English fluently, you should bring an interpreter.

You may also bring your attorney. I would recommend both.

We'll pic it up from the attorney, this Sat. morning. I'll let everyone know what it entails, just for gen. knowledge.

Thanks!
