Does she need to have a cert for single status?

Recommended Posts

As a US citizen, I know that I may have to prove my single status
in the US by doing the following:

1. filling out the affidavit of single status form.
2. Get that notarized.
3. Then bring it to my Secretary of State in San Francisco to approve it.

My fiance is in Shenzhen, China. Does she need to get a certificate
to prove her single status by any Chinese government agency?
If so, what are the steps, and where?

Anything to make this part clearer would be appreciated.

Have your fiance contact the local government office in her home town that handles marriages to foreigners and ask them what she will need based on her specific status. If she's been divorced, she'll need a divorce decree for the Chinese and will also need to get notarial translations of it/them for you to bring back and file with the I 130.

We've had two other USC's asking the same questions in the past week or so. Take a look at the answers they got.

One clarification. You are proving that you are not married, period, not just not married in the US. Even then, you are actually just signing an affidavit indicating you are not currently married and showing documents indicating previous marriages are terminated but it's good enough for the Chinese officials in question.

John,

New idea to help you for future endeavors. Go to My assistant and use the advanced search function. This search function will help you narrow the huge information that is available.

In answer to your question. I didn't have a single certificate for either of us. Yin and myself have both been divorced. We had notarized copies of all legal documents prepared and forwarded with 129F and 130 (I was a K-3 applicant that took the high road and the low road)

If she was divorced just simply state that you need copies of her green book. She will know immediately what you are speaking of.

Just tell her to contact the "min zheng ju" in Shenzhen.

That's the local municipal government office that handles

marriage registrations.

Then ask her to apply for

a "dan shen zheng ming" (Single status certificate)

Are you currently in the visa process or looking to start it ?

A USC does not need any single certificate if you are applying K1 (or already in it)... the beneficiary will will one at the P3 stage (assuming K1 again).

Please clarify what your visa type is and where in the process you are...

---

Just read in another post that your SO just sent back P3. With the P3 she just returned the OF-169 which lists what she needs to collect, including what certificates... did she make a copy of it ?

You can see a copy of it in Links and Resources forum as well as the FAQs to know what to do for P3, P4 and interview...

She should get her single certificate, police certificate and birth certificate at the same time and at least 2 extra copies... Probably will run her about 1000-1500 yuan.

The USC does not need any single certificate as a K1 petitioner...
