Chinese woman, health and medicine

Recommended Posts

I've discovered that my lady injects herself with placenta. She told me that many women in China do this. A local Chinese doctor prescribed this for her. The 'medicine' is produced by a Chinese company and comes in small glass vials. I looked this up on the internet and, essentially, it is urine from a pregnant women. I wonder, if this might help to maintain hormonal balance in women as they age or if it is Chinese folklore. From internet medical information, I've explained to her what the possible long-term side affects could be. And, she has said "I listen to you".

We picked up her belongings from her former residence yesterday. Among her belongings was a package from her sister. When we got home, she opened it and it was five cartons of juice. The ingredients read : Donkey-hide, Gelatin, and so on. I translated 'donkey-hide' to Chinese and she confirmed this is what it is and that it is "very good for health." Now, I suppose it can't hurt her, but makes me wonder......

Welcome to our world Dennis. In the days to come when her penchant for spoiling you by cooking american food wears off you will be subjected to eating all kinds of things you would otherwise never consider. Best thing to do is not even ask what it is. Just eat it. It all tastes good. Chinese take their medicine very seriously. Considering it's long history and proven value I just take my wife's word for it. Another issue you will likely encounter is not using the refriderator. They cook all kinds of things, and leave it out on the counter for hours or sometimes days. I used to worry about it making me sick but I finally quit worring about it as it hasn't hurt me yet. Then there is the issue of hearing what other Chinese people tell her. No matter how much you know about the subject if they hear something else from another Chinese person you are wrong.

It's all good thought Dennis. Enjoy the ride.

Dennis:

as a precaution; I would have her get a thorough screening of blood etc..from your Doctor. Things like Hepatitis B are very common. Of course after being here for 5 years probably nothing will surface...then there's blood pressure and other things that have no outward signs. I know, I was diognosed with high blood pressure and would have never known.

Just a thought as a precaution...no offense intended to your beautiful woman!

I've had high blood pressure since I was in my twenties. I don't mean a little high i'm talking 170/120. that's stroke range and beyond. After she was here for a year I see my family DR. He is AMAZED, not only was my BP normal, my choloesterol went from the upper 300's to 160. He said I'm getting younger. Wifey said it's chinese food nd the nasty tasting soup she forces me to drink at supper time. Soon I may be back in grade school--or better yet, breast feeding!

That nani/noni juice is becoming popular with the naturalist crowd. In the next town over (the big one - 4500 people) there is now an acupuncturist/chinese medicine specialist who is also a PT (gotta multitask or starve in the small towns). So even the boonies of the cowboy northwestern US have "discovered" eastern medicine. 5000 years and billions of people can't *all* be wrong can they?

Too bad there is nothing I could sprinkle on my ill-boding mattress to take the jinx out of it...

Yes, the food, and what about stress? For all of your talking I suspedt that the home is filled with peace and tranquility (after you get off your big ass and do what your told). Yes, I would think that the stres has pretty much been eliminated from your life. :helpsmilie:

Hehehe ... I predict your advice on Chinese medicine will never be really accepted.

You must be Chinese to advise in this area ...  :helpsmilie:

I think you're right, Jim. She may say that she'll listen to me, but I don't believe she'll do much more than just listen. :clapping:

My wife cooked up a batch of "Donkey Skin" (good for woman) after

thanks giving.

It sat on the counter for two days, in the "mister coffee" pot and then

recooked, put in plastic containers and refridgerated until she took it to

her aunt's house last weekend.
