How much time needed after interview

Recommended Posts

My wife tells me that it took her sister 4 days to get the visa in hand after the interview. I have not heard of this before.. that was just last month. I want to fly home on the 22nd and our interview is on the 17th. Is there anything to do other than pick up the visa?? Of course this is assuming that we have big smiles after the interview.... Does this timeline sound ok?? I need to buy the tickets ....

It's hard to say. Everyone's situation is a bit different. But that sounds like the same thing that happend to my wife. After getting a blue slip, we got it cleared up and she was able to get the visas 3 days later.

Incidentally, today's date makes it 2 years ago, October 23, 2003.

That was a Thursday. My wife got the blue slip because the VO wanted the actual divorce decree from my divorce. I called home and got them faxed to the hotel we were staying at. My flight was leaving on Sunday. I gave my wife the faxed copies to turn in on Monday and I caught the plane back home. She had to stay an extra day but after turning in the papers, she got the visa and caught a train home.

So all worked out for us.

-good luck to you both on the 17th.

this is a tough call, but if you have everything prepared and all the possible overcome evidence, you should be good to go, but if it was me, I would allow any extra time available.

good luck and best wished for a successful interview and speedy pick-up of the visa....

If you have all smiles after the interview and your SO knows to have the visa sent to the post, the 20 RMB option. It should be available Saturday the 19th after 9am.

We purchased our return tickets in China and got a better price than was available to me in the US. Last minute ticket purchases are the norm in China and the prices are lower, unlike the US. But then you have to deal with the availability of seats.

Also, changing return flights is very easy in China and the cost is minimal.

During my laopo's interview, she noticed there was a "computer" glitch with the visa issuance of another person. That person received her visa on the fourth day.

Most important is to rehearse the questions with your SO, to make sure she knows all the information in your biographical data. And the who, where, when of the photos. It's good to include photos of your close relatives. My laopo noticed someone (in adjacent booth) who stumbled on one of those biographical information and subsequently the blue slip.

Have an enjoyable and successful trip.

And here is a very convenient place to stay in an apartment above the floors of the Consulate offices. My laopo stayed there and the owner is very friendly and helpful. http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=13452

Personally I would give it a week after interview at least. I also would wait until she has the visa in hand to buy the plane ticket. There have been a lot of blue slips issued lately and they don't seem to be as easy to overcome as they used to be.

I want to thank all of you so much. CFL is the best. You bring up some very good points. I think you are right Gene, Thursday could be a problem. I might not get the visa until Monday. That might be the reason her sister had to wait 4 days. I will schedule for the 24th return to Washington.

Thanks Again.......

Dennis, from what I have read here so far, the visas are issued on saturdays and sundays, it would just be if you had a problem the consulate is not open on those days.

Hopefully you can pick it up on saturday :D
