Feathers268
This should be quick. 3 weeks ago I sent off the form to order tax record transcripts from the IRS. Now I do understand that doing this in April doesn't help, but how long should I give these people. I just don't want to panic if Jen gets her P4. Does anyone know if this can be followed up? Shoot, I sent the thing to the offices in Fresno. If I had to, I could go there in person if it would help. Of course, now that I asked this, it will show up in tomorrow's mail. Link to comment
NY-Viking
Can't really help here, but I ordered some in January and they never showed up. We didn't need them, but would have appreciated them arriving just the same. I sent photocopies of my returns for the last 5 years just in case they were asked for (which again, they weren't). Feathers268
Thanks for the input,It is helpful in knowing that I could possibly get no response from them at all. I can make sure Jen will have my most recent return and w-2's, but since I had a combo of turbo tax, laziness, and computer crashes, I don't have copies of returns for other years. Let's hope those nice nice folks at the IRS is actually going to get that to me soon. Link to comment

Then I could of sworn I read that you can get them for free... is that what you're doing? Link to comment
Feathers268
Yes,If you check the IRS website, they had a form that would let you order up to 4 transcripts for free. It said it takes 10 business days or they also had a number to call to order the same thing. I knew I should have called. I'm curious, did you get them next day as promised? If push comes to shove, I'd gladly pay for the piece of mind that I have them here instead of having to wait on another beaurocat. Link to comment
MarkD
I used the automated phone service to get my transcripts. I got 2001 - 2003 in 2 weeks and 2004 in 4 weeks. I asked in at the end of March and I filed my 2004 taxes in early Feb. Link to comment

cosmiclobster
Feathers: I have also ordered free transcripts in the past. It usually takes 2 weeks except in March or April - then 4 to 6 weeks. As you said, they will probably show up right after your post this!P.S. My tax returns were not looked at - I think they only ask to see these for self employed people. Link to comment
frank1538
I requested transcripts, but they didn't arrive in time. I want to say it took more than 30 days to actually get them. Later, I found out that the regional IRS office here in Atlanta has a walk-in service that people can use to get copies and print outs of filings. Link to comment
Feathers268
Thanks for the info guys, I'll give them a little more time before I go nuts. That's good to know about the walk up service. I'll be in Fresno on Friday so I'll see if that is available for CA residents. Link to comment
