  1. Hi All, My wife's parents will be visiting this Fall for 6 months and I want to purchase travel insurance for them. Has anyone done it? Looking for recommendations. Thanks!! John
  2. My father-in-law will be arriving next Saturday for a 5 and a half month visit. All along I have planned on buying him visitor's medical insurance. He is 64 years old, I am trying to decide between two policies 1. For ~$1000 I can but a policy with an intiial $1000 deductible, a 10% co-pay up to $5000 and then 100% up to a max benefit to $500,000 2 For ~$700, I can buy a policy with an initial $5000 deductible, then 100% to $500,000 Here is my question, has anyone ever bought one of these policies and tried to use them. They both have a pre-existing condition exclusion and I suspect for any type of routine care they would argue it was pre-existing. Just writing out the cost, the first policy seems to make more sense if you can actually use it for routine care So ultimately, this would be only for an accident or something like a heart attack. Looking if anyone has had experience with buying this type of medical insurance and whether it is good for anything but true catastrophic care. A Chinese friend actually told me he does not buy anything because if needed, you go to the emergency room and ultimately my wife and I would not be responsible for my father-in-law's medical bills. However, if the need arises I believe my father-in-law would get better care if he had some form of insurance. Thoughts?
  3. Hey everyone, got my mother and father-in-law comming over in December from china for a visit. Mom is a diabetic and we need to get her medical insurance so she can see a stupid USA doctor to tell her she is diabetic so we can get her the medicine she needs while here. Anyone come across something like this before or know of an insurance?
  4. Hi to all of you, it's been a very long time since I don't enter the site and I see such great changes. I will always feel grateful to all of you who helped me and gave such great advice on how to deal with the visa process. So many things have happened since then, but we are fine and my husband has been a US citizen for quite some time. My situation now is that after 6 years of my husband arriving to USA he's worried for his parents as his older brother moved to Europe to live, so now there's no one to take care of them when they get older. He visits them once a year but that will not be enough in the future. So we have thought of inviting them to visit us with the hope that maybe they will decide to live with us after we apply for the corresponding visa. Of course they will go back and wait until all is done. Our big concern is that once they arrive to USA on a tourist visa, how can they get medical treatment if something happened to them? Is there any special medical insurance we can buy for them? Thanks!
  5. Hello guys! Me and my wife will be going back to the USA sometime in November. I will be looking for a job when I get there, but something I've been thinking about is health insurance. Shes only 24, no health problems, so I was wondering if anyone has some recommendations? I've thought about just getting something for emergencies since I hope to get a job soon and have her covered anyways. If anyone was in a similar situation...let me know if you have any recommendations! (Going to Tennessee if that matters)
  6. My in-laws are going to be visiting us for 2 months (oh, joy), and I just realized that they should probably have some sort of health insurance just in case anything happens. I've heard horror stories of visitors needing medical help, and their bills being tens (if not hundreds) of thousands of dollars. Do any of you have experience in this area - or can you make any recommendations? Thanks!! Kevin
  7. We are in the process of preparing all the fun paperwork for Yaya's parents to stay here permanently. The only big concern is health insurance for them. So, I was just wondering if anybody knew if they would be eligible for Medicare/Medicaid after this process (I think one is 68 and the other is 63)?
  8. I'm hoping my wife gets her CR-1 visa approved in August. I am now looking ahead to find a good health care policy for her when she arrives in CA. Your experiences or thoughts on this subject will be greatly appreciated. Mike.
  9. My mother-in-law in China wants to visit to see our newborn baby in Pennsylvania. She will be here for about three months, and I started wondering about health insurance. Is health insurance really necessary if she only plans to stay for three months? If so, are there any reliable health insurance companies that sell policies to international visitors?
  10. I need to buy Li Hong some temporary health insurance until we are married. Anyone have some information on this. Thanks!
  11. Anyone have any advice on short term health insurance? My fiancee is here with me in the US now. We already had to go to an urgent health care center for a non-urgent problem. The original plan was to marry as soon as possible. It would have been easy to get her under my work insurance plan. But plans change. I need coverage for her for one to two months. She is used to going to the doctor at a drop of a hat. Just having a plan with help. I called BCBS today. They won't cover her until she has a green card. Is this true for all insurers? Thanks in advance for help on this.
  12. Hello, My in-laws are planning to visit the US sometime in the near future. I was wondering if anyone had any ideas on the best way to handle health insurance for them while they are here? Thank you very much!
  13. Does anyone have any experience with purchasing temporary medical insurance for visiting relatives from China? I've found a few web sites of various companies that offer this insurance, and would like to benefit from anyone's personal experiences with this type of insurance. Any recommendations for good companies? Thanks, Hai Ying and Peter
  14. After going to many Asian countries for the past 14 years, including China, without any health insurance, I'm starting to think maybe it would be a great idea to get it when I go to China to see my fiancee. Especially since I got so sick during my last trip in March I thought I was going to end up at a hospital there. Another friend of mine did end up in a hospital in Xian in May after he had a sudden illness while visiting his fiancee there. So does anyone have any experience purchasing this temporary health insurance for travelers? And if so perhaps someone can point me in the right direction on where to obtain it? Thanks.
