  1. Has anyone ever wired money to their wives bank account in China? Can you do this even though she is now in the US? If you can, does the money stay in US dollars or is it converted to RMB?
  2. I was wondering....if my wife's family wants to send us money (we are thinking of buying a house) how can they send it to say....Wells Fargo bank here in GA? Can they just use name on account, Bank name and routing number and account number? Robert
  3. Question: I need to wire about $50,000 plus from China to the USA to show assets in the USA for our I-864 form. What is the best way? I know how to wire the money but what is the max amount I can wire each time and will I be taxed by the US Gov.? Any ideas or experience? Thanks Steve
  4. I apologize if this has been covered before, I tried searching and found nothing ... The question is on bringing or wiring funds from China when entering US on K-1 visa. I have heard limits of $5000 or $10,000 per year can be carried out of China. True? Will banks wire more? If so, what is a good bank to use? If I have documentation of wiring money there previously, can this amount be brought back on top of whatever other limits exist? I know that funds over $10,000 need to be declared with customs, I am not concerned with that. Mainly trying to understand what limitation exist on the Chinese side. Thanks, Todd
  5. Got this in my email today, I have been a long time user of paypal. I checked the fee to send to China, FREE if from a checking or pay-pal account. https://www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=x...ransfer-outside Check it out. Looks better than Western Union.
  6. Hi All, We are trying to bring some money here from China and I wanted to see if anyone could help us that has had experience doing this. We tried last week to wire transfer from ICBC-International Commercial Bank of China to BOA-Bank of America and the transfer reciept said it was completed correctly but BOA never recieved the wire or any contact from ICBC and a few days later it was back in the account at ICBC. My wife has talked with her bank and as near as I can tell it sounds like the clerk was not sure what to do. BOA told me they can recieve wire transfers from ICBC but can do nothing until they make the transfer request. ICBC website has BOA selection to transfer too so.....? We are trying to do this through the bank to avoid any heavy fee's. Is there a better way? Maybe need to open accounts at another bank? Thanks,
  7. I have a new Paypal account now and I was going to send my SO some emergency funds now. Her Motorcyle had to have some unexpected repairs and her computer went on the blink. When it rains in Nanning it pours I opened a Visa check card account for her but this will take time for her to get it in Nanning. I have never sent money thru Pay Pal before and I hear it is a lot cheaper the WU. Any suggestions on what to do.
  8. some may already know, but thought i'd share this very useful information: If you have a BOA account in america, you can use CCB atms and withdraw money at no charge. (tested, works!) http://cnreviews.com/entrepreneurship/conv...2_20080529.html same goes for wiring money to china. have your SO open up a CCB and you can send money at no charge! (not yet tested, will try in near future) http://www.banking-business-review.com/art...49-F1F81F3B8B9E
  9. Ok, I know that some of you have sent money via Western Union. What do I need to send money this way, (Name, address......)? How much does it cost and how will Ada receive it in China (RMB or US)? If it can be received USD, is it better this way or more of a pain? What other options are there (no bank account at other end yet)?
  10. I'd like to send money to my fiancee in China. I've used Western Union in the past but I don't like paying the fees. Has anyone transferred cash from their Paypal account in the US to a someones Paypal account in China? My fiancee is trying to create a new Paypal China account now, but she says it requires a credit card and she does not have one. I know a credit card is not required to open a Paypal account in the US, but maybe it's different over there. Steve
  11. Before I start, I would like to say this is the best forum I've found for information related to visa and other matters involving Chinese/western couples. I married the most wonderful Chinese lady on December 21, 2007, in Chengdu after months of web cam, yahoo chat and voip. I live in Danville, VA and am in the process of moving to Chengdu in the next month or so. It is our intention to live off my SSA benefits and I will also teach technical english. In the meantime, while we are living in Chengdu, we will proceed with the K-3 spouse visa application for my wife. What I need to know is, what papers must I remember to take with me when I relocate. I already have certified copy of divorce papers and my birth certificate, also my passport of course. I will take a copy of my 2007 tax return. Is there anything I'm forgetting? We can print out our chat sessions and emails from pc in Chengdu, or should I go ahead and do that and take them with me? Thanks for your help. Bill
  12. I can get free AmEx travelers checks. So I got one to send to my Mother-in-Law to pay for a trip to Thailand for them. We will but her name and ID number at the top so only she can cash it. Anyone else tried it?
  13. Has anyone tried a wire transfer to a savings account under Bank of China? I was checking and I'm not sure if this can be done. I think they may only allow the transfer to a regular personal checking account, but not savings. If anyone can confirm, please let me know. It's either this or Western Union. I need to xfer to Shanghai branch. Thanks.
  14. Just back from a site-seeing trip with my fiance to Beijing. We had a wonderful time . . . The new customs forms (July 1) ask if you are carrying any articles valued over RMB2000 that will be left behind, alcohol/tobacco over 1500 ml/400 cigs/500g, $5000 cash, animals, plants, ... radio transmitters, receivers, or communication security equipment, prohibited articles, unaccompanied baggage, or goods of commercial value such as samples/ advertisements. I am not sure what it would mean to not declare your unaccompanied baggage. PayPal ATM - it is free - no monthly or maintenance fees, no non-use fees. A RMB 600 transfer was charged at $73.44 after Bank of China fee. The additional PayPal fee for this transfer was only $1.00. And she found an ATM in Yulin Guangxi! No more Western Union for us! I bought a SIM card from China Mobile in the airport international arrivals area for my unlocked GSM "world" phone from the U.S. She was able to use it for a weeks worth of received and sent calls. Now, if GUZ would only hurry up with that P4!
  15. Will my wife have to pay any taxes when she enters the USA? (I'm not talking about afterwards when she works. I'm asking about transferring monies into the US banks from the Chinese banks.)
  16. One of my co-workers just gave me a great idea for sending money to China. If you both have a pay pal account you can sent money to your SO. I've used it to pay for e-bay items in Hong Kong, Korea and Japan. No fee either.
