  1. Very sad. The victims are her living family. I doubt I will read any of her books knowing she would do this to her husband and young son.
  2. It's old news and old history. It happened 60 years ago. Who cares.
  3. Good news for you. Our 4 weeks for background check completion from AOS interview is reaching 5 months. Well things run slow down here in the south. Cheers.
  4. Thanks for the replies. Just trying to see if USCIS has lost any paper work or has forgotten about us. Past performance is not a great indicator of future performance with this agency. In 2001 they lost our I-129 and it set us back 6 months in an already 12 to 16 month process. Called the FBI, and they said the background check was finished. Went back to the USCIS office yesterday and was told the background check was "pending". I can attest that after 9/11 the US government has slowed down the visa process both domestically and internationally. My wife and I are the most terrorism free couple in the US, after my polygraph test for my job and my wife's DOS and now pending FBI check.
  5. My wife went for her AOS interview on 08/14/2003 (New Orleans office). BCIS interviewer could not stamp her passport as he said that the FBI background check was not complete. He said it should take about 3 to 4 more weeks before it would be complete. Almost 4 months later and no word from the BCIS office. Has anyone experienced the same problem? How long can a background check take? Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks. Filled AOS on 03/12/2003 Interview on 08/14/2003 Background Check - MIA
  6. Thanks for the advice. Seems simple, but we hear a lot of rumors coming from friends and family in China. Off to Shenyang, Yingkou and Dandong. Cheers!
  7. Hi, My wife and I are going to China for 2 weeks in September. We have filed for AOS (fingerprints have been done) and are waiting for the interview. We have a multi-entry advance parole document (I-131) for her reentry back into the USA. My question? Has anyone had any problems coming back to the US using an AP? Also has anyone had any problems at the airport in the PR China when trying to depart? My wife believes that the Korean Air airport check-in employees in Shenyang won't believe the AP, as it's not attached/printed in the passport and they might believe it to be a fake. Also does a Chinese citizen (living in the US with conditional or permanent residency) require a visa to enter the PRC? Any help/advice is appreciated. Thanks. Ty
  8. Phatkat, Can you shed some light on this one for other members? I just hate to feel that blind love was at fault? You have got to think when you start a relationship with a person with whom you have major language/cultural differences, that love can always find common ground? Any hints of issues or deceit? I read so many stories on this site, especially those with fiancees from South China, that explode with stories of quick total love. How can you be when your are so different and so far away from each other? It's so common to hear on this site of a Chinese woman telling her US man that she loves him after only a very short time. Did Ring speak any English? What are your age differences? Does she have degree from a university? What was her job in China? The lonely hearts club doesn't need another victim.
  9. Let see Joseph-1. We can all sit a moan and bitch about the visa delay or maybe give some advice. Hope you found the right gift.
  10. Try travelogia's boardingpass.com or sidestep.com Both are travel search engines that scour the travel net sites for the best fare. There's also flychina.com
  11. Here's my choice. After 4 trips I have learned what works. Smokes for the men. Marlboro's, Camels or any cig American will be a big hit. Leave the cigars at home. or Scotch or Bourbon. Glennfidich, Oban, JD or Jim Beam works well. (look at this way Pabst Blue Ribbon is the "chic" brew in China right now). Let the Chinese Gambai a few of these liquors - you'll be a big hit. For the women. Japanese or US made cosmetics or Japanese or Swiss made watches. Check the label to make sure nothing is "Made in the PRC" I tried all types of gifts but found the above to make the most impact.
  12. I actually tried dog meat when I was in Dandong. Was pretty tasty. Just had to get over the fact I was eating Fido. Never let anyone let you believe dog "taste like chicken".
