  1. Hey Dave, Yea were looking at all our options now. Funny, things took so long and now they go so fast. We dont have a lot of time for our decision, but we dont want to screw it up.. Gawd i got a headache Regards from Gz Jim
  2. So would this work. she flies to america on the K-1 and we get married, then, we both fly back to China and i file for the K-3. This way we are married and we are just changing the visa type. Just trying to look at all my options. The problem is i will be signing a 1-2 year contract to work here, but that doesnt mean i will be here that long. this is a test bed to see if it works for all parties. I have an out if im not happy with the job. Regard from Guz, Jim
  3. well Funny hunny let me spend a few bucks and we moved from the hostle my wife had us in to the Clairon Star hotel.(i win i win) Think its the first one listed. The rate is 550 rmb and the room has a computer in it. Very nice if you need to get online but dont feel like slubbing your laptop across the big pond. Rooms are nice and the view is awesome. resturant are good but a tad pricey.. Subway is close and very easy to use . All and all i would give it a B+ Regards from GZ, Jim
  4. Many of you know we are now in kind of a sticky situation. I start my job in China on the 2nd week of Sept. Yafei and her son will fly to America on the 22 of this month. they will stay in our home there and i will come to China myself to start work. This lets us get in him in school at the start of the year, and allows us to keep our home there. We will marry the lastweek of this month and send in all the aos paperwork. We will also file for AP. Looking at the posts, it looks like it will take about 2 to 3 months to get it. Does this sound about right? This frees her up to come visit while keeping our home there. We have looked at many options and this one looks like the best for us. Any thoughts, comment, advice ? Regards From GZ, Jim
  5. Congrat !!! Good luck at the interview Regards from GZ, Jim
  6. we are working out the details of the contract now. Looks like the 2nd week of Sept. I havn't even left yet and i miss China already.. Regards from GZ, Jim
  7. Lastnight we went on one of the many boat tours of the Pearl. We took the dinner crusie which cost 100 rmb per person. It is a great way to get a feel of just how massive Gz is. The food was only so-so but the view was fantastic. The one we took was about 2 hours. One word of cautions. The thiefs are pretty thick around the boat areas. We were warned of this and i could "Feel" them. Several times i had to swat some little fingers away. Keep you head on a swivel. I think the best rule of thumb is "if you feel uncomfortable, there is good reason" So enjoy but be smart.. Regards from Gz, Jim
  8. I believe Trigg also said something about kicking in some cash for eveyones airfare!!!! Regards from Guz, Jim
  9. Hank To tell you the truth i'm not sure what they wanted. I just gave them more pictures of us on vacation, more recipts, more letters from our family and friends and a letter saying i was taking the job in Shanghai. What pushed them over the edge is anyones guess. Regards from Guz, Jim
  10. Ok, so now we have the visa, but one small problem has come up. As many of you know i was offered and have accepted a job in Shanghai. I will return sometime in Sept to start the new position. So our time is very limited and we must soon decide how to go about getting married. She cant leave her job untill after the 22nd of this month. And we need to get all her things in order. Once we marry, how long untill she is free to leave the US and still return? Is it better to wait and her just live with me in Shanghai, then return over Christmas to get married? I guess what i am asking is, after we marry, what type of visa can she get for travel, and how long does it take. Do i need to leave her in the US untill additonal paperwork is filed? Any links of faq's on the subject? Regards from Guz, Jim
  11. I Flew in on Wen the 29th. We hurried to get our overcoming documents together then went and stood online to turn them in. Took about an hour to get to the window. We we told to return on Fri to get our results. Now my Funny hunny had told me we did not want to get called early on Fri because that meant we were sure to get a blue slip. She told me that the girls on 001 said the pink slips mostly come at the end. Well guess what, we were the first name called and damn if we didnt get the blue. First gd time i get pick first for anything. So, off to Shanghai for my job interview and lots of pictures and recipts. We flew back into Gz on Sunday and started to repackage all our overcoming docs. She had been talking to a man many of the girls on 001 know. He has help many of them prepare their paperwork. He came over to our hotel and looked at the mounds of evidence we had and started trimming it down. He did not want our ask for anything. I was concered we had culled our stuff down to much, but i went with his advice. Only took about half of what i had gathered as evidence. Took all the doc's to the window on monday (another 1 1/2 on line at the consulate) We were told to return on Wen at 4pm. Wednesday we Got to the waiting area outside where you listen for your name to be called. I would guess that there were over 200 people. As they started calling names it was only blue slip after blue slip. Funny hunny was so nervous she was shaking. About 3/4 of the way we saw the first pink slip. Then it was pink pink pink.. only a few blues were given out near the end. With about 10 people left we were called to the window, and we got our pink slip. Told to go the post office to pay for the Visa then we will receive it in 2 working days. The post office closes at 5 and it was 10 minutes after 5 when we got there. Hunny just busted through the line as only an excited chinese girl can and got a number, then waited to go inside to pay. (cant wait to take her to an amusement park, we will be first in line for everything lol ) Looks like the post office stayed open to let all the new visa people pay thier fee. So i guess the moral of the story is... When in China feel free to bust to the front of the line, just not at the consulate window. Regards from Guz, Jim

I land in GZ on Wednesday morning (27th) and will be there until Friday(29th). We hope to be able to get all our overcoming documents to them that day. If all goes well we should know Friday about the visa. I will make sure to keep you guys informed about our results. Friday night (29th) we fly to Shanghai. A company there wants to interview me for a job. We will be there until Sunday night, then we fly back to GZ until August 7th. like i said.. I'm buying!!! 20. the good thing is, we see all who have walk the long road before us. There will be an end, you just keep walking. on a good note. When i go on my trip to Guz next week, a company is going to fly yafei and I to Shanghai for a job interview. We will go there for two days during my trip. Funny, spend all this time to bring her here, only to hop back on a plane to go to work in Shanghai..lol Jim
  21. I just called China Southern last week. I was told 2 Checked bags up to 70lbs a piece. 1 carry on bag, and one laptop or purse. My domestic flight to lax is with United. Since the whole ticket is considered “International flight” they same rules apply. I called to confirm this. I was told by the girl from united. “If your domestic carrier has an agreement with the international airline they accept the international carrier’s baggage allowance.” Have fun in China Jim
  22. Cha Ching !!!!!! Congrats to you and yours Jim

  24. I wonder if this will be good or bad for interviews. I will be there for two weeks. If we dont get approval the first week, we will try get whatever else they want the next week. But from what yafei tells me, we must wait untill friday for a yea of nay, and the second friday is the 5th. Any thoughts on the move? good, bad, or just status quo? Jim
