  1. Of course, virus only infects Microsoft web servers, because Microsoft has long been ignoring security threats to its OS. Linux, which candle is running on, never had a virus, as are the cases for other Unix servers. Monopoly is very harmful to the general public. And this is what we see in real life when a monopoly is slow to react to a long-standing problem. Sounds familiar?
  2. As far as we are concerned, the terrorists succeeded in changing our lives...
  3. Jennifer, Mick and AngryTexan, this is a suggestion if we are to send a group letter. I don’t have the writing skills. As Sir Owen, Knight of the Northern Realm, Champion of Justice and Slayer of Ignorance, pointed out, it is very good, but not great. I would like to see it refined and sent by the name keeper. Or anyone can take its cue and send your own individual copy. The power is in the numbers. sy
  4. Dear Ms. Harty: We have been waiting for the K Visas for our fiancée's(our loved ones) since XXXXXX. That is 1X months and counting. The new security check has caused the endless delays for many in the visa issuance. Ever since August, we have been repeatedly misinformed, ignored, or lied to by various government branches. The letters you sent to many people waiting for name check clearance was the best hope in a long time. In one dated 12/23/02, you said “Let me assure you that the Bureau of Consular Affairs is dedicating significant resources and time, both in the Department and at the Consulate to process all of the immigrant and K visas cases as quickly as possible.” And on 1/4/03, you again stated “The majority of new clearance requests are now processed within approximately two weeks”. We thought we would finally see the light at the end of the tunnel. But we were wrong again. Now three weeks has past since January 4th, all we have heard are scant approvals among the vast number of eagerly waiting would have been Brides/Grooms. What has gone wrong this time? Isn’t it a reasonable assumption if something is put to the highest priority and has been given a certain timeline, it will be done in time? Or are we not the part of the “majority” that can be processed within approximately two weeks? We’ve tried to comprehend the complexity of the security clearance process; we’ve tried to understand its importance to the national security, but we cannot and would not comprehend a system that has no credibility or accountability. It’s true that American’s lives are on the line; it is even more true that our lives are on the line. By now, with this much delay, it’s no longer a security issue, but a management issue, as we know people who started the process far later than ours have already went through the process in a relatively short time. What has made the queue so seemingly out of order? And why some get punished through no fault of their own? Well, instead of asking questions, we would like to see answers. And the answer is a simple one – Visa. Sincerely.
  5. Nasa have to go eBay to buy computer parts long out of market. http://www.idg.net/english/crd_document_860792.html Oh boy, I have to think twice next time going on a shuttle trip. Or, on another theory, could it be the FBI actually doing the buying, but too embarrassed to admit?
  6. Cartoon - This one worked faster http://www.msnbc.com/c/0/125/537/ssMain.as...&0ss=N182125537
  7. Owen, this is truly outrageous! But since we cannot trust GZ or DOS for anything, would it be possible they told you wrong this time again? Perhaps you can call DOS tomorrow to see if it is really true. In any case, we will never forget what they did, or did not do!
  8. haha, that book can feed him well into next year. what's on page 150? security clearance for the craftsmen?
  9. Oh, right. They are still using technology that's 100 year old. We are the victims of technology, or the lack of. But I still doubt if they actually use Chinese characters for their name check.
  10. I believe the telegraph code is only sent to Chinese government for them to keep track on who has actually left the country. The US is not that sophisticated to understand the telegraph code, or to go back in time that far, as telegraphic code has long be out of use when the telegraph died a decade ago. The modern way to represent Chinese characters is GB2312, as is used on 001, or Unicode. Then again, if US government still issues papers printed 10 years ago, do you really think they can keep track of the technology? sy
  11. A real democracy is supposedly used to set a stage, a level playing field, so every individual human being can play out the Darwinism at its best – the continuation of natural selection. According to the laws of thermodynamics, whenever there is uninterrupted energy supply from the outside, the Sun being the case, the whole system will flourish and become better, at least as the theory goes. But in the meantime, there will be turbulence, set backs and all sorts of injustice happening locally, because of the fast moving evolution process. Without democracy, we would end up in a closed system, and it would only decay eventually.
  12. Jennifer, For a country as a whole, US has better democracy and people are more equal. But like any society, when there is no competition, there is laziness, and I suspect that ‘s exactly what happened with our government. Democracy is one that can eventually correct itself. In the long run, I hope history will not repeat itself in this country. And we will be all enjoying the sun and freedom, happily ever after
  13. Owen, If you can wait for the mail, try to this, http://www.penpower.com.tw It's real WYSIWYG - What You See Is What You Get!
  14. Owen, This is the same rhetoric they have been singing for years, just like the communist government making grand plans and glorifying everything they have achieved or pretend to have achieved. The root problem is, the public does not push for immigration reform, because it is, for the most part, irrelevant to their lives. Immigrants have historically been discriminated against, and they never have had the equal rights that citizens do. So we are all at the mercy of this huge bureaucracy and have to let it to determine our fate. The only mistake we have made was we did not learn from history of how long this thing would take. But then, there has never been such a stupid name check in history. We were prepared to wait for 6 months, and now we know it was only a dream. Murphy’s law is what we have learned painfully in reality.
  15. Hmm, sounds like another DOS conspiracy to separate people -- "&" are not allowed, not in the dictionary
  16. Yep, that was a form letter, or at least later became a form letter. The first I saw was a fax to Joseph-1 dated 1/4, with some typo at the end, funny typo, that is "Please feel tree to contact us if we can be of Assistance in the fixture." I hope we don't feel "tree", and do not need assistance "in the fixture"
  17. naaaaah, that is wayyyyyyyyy to simplistic :-) Yeah, right. If the security check takes 15 years, the 1 year old boy will then get his real name check done... Oh boy, I can't wait to turn 16.
  18. Bribe in China is a double-edged sword. In good times, some officials take in huge amount of bribes, living a good life, or simply fleeing overseas with the money. When the situation is out of control, the government starts to crack down, and those with not so good connections are the ones to loose their heads, literally.
  19. And Boats... If you do need to go to GuangZhou for the n’th time and plan to take the Pearl River site seeing cruise, don’t go for the one with the buffet, unless you prepare to forfeit that less than mediocre Chinese food. The ride is pleasant; the night scene is impressive, with all the Neon lights on the buildings along the riverbank. The beauty is striking, no less than that of Hong’s Victoria Harbor. But you have to keep your eyes on the beauty outside, especially during the buffet time, when everyone onboard fights his/her way through the manufactured “crowd”. Everything is gone within minutes; then the second round comes, gone in minutes too, … Interestingly enough, there is enough food for everyone, when the war is over that is. If you still have appetite by then, a new dish is sitting there, quietly waiting...
  20. The bureaucrats obviously slept during their elementary school math class- “If the reverse is False, it is True”…”If 1 year old cannot be a terrorist, he is innocent”…”If no female from China is a terror suspect, all females from China are not terrorists".....
  21. If, in the remote possibility, a class action lawsuit becomes reality, all these evidence should be used to show their mismanagement, incompetence, and negligence. I have my $1K saved for my K1. Since it already has cost me more than 10 times that, I would not hesitate to contribute any amount I can afford. By the same token, shall we count on K3's $3K?
  22. Hmm... AARP would have done better. The wise man would say "Hey, this young lady don't need no name check, never would never will. A woman terrorist? from China? Hohohoho"
  23. I heard the same thing today. Now it looks like that "2 weeks" we were told was not accurate. "If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is"
  24. Occasionally there is a delay by mail. Sounds familiar? . It happened to me once, and I had to call the China Consulate to get my visa mailed to me a week ahead of my trip. Since then, I always go in person.
