If you have lost your alien card, the embassy may be able to issue you a transportation letter which would permit you to return to the United States. In order to issue such a letter, the Embassy must interview you and obtain confirmation of your resident alien status. Knowing your alien registration number will expedite the process. Please note that the Embassy may also request documentary proof of when you last departed from the U.S. There is a fee of $165 for this service

I sure would think twice before you do what you are thinking about doing. I do believe that you also need to send in an address change to the INS. How are you going to explain in your AOS interview your tax returns when you filed in a different state?? You also need to do some research on the Info Pass, yes people are getting interviews in 3 or 4 months but after 8 months or so are still waiting for their GC's... The bottom line in the government’s eyes is what else you have lied about if they catch you not filing in the proper area that you live. I would think that they would have no problem in denying the AOS and imposing a 10 year ban on your wife if you get caught . She is here now and from what I have read it took a while to get her here, why take a chance on trying to save a few months or so.
