Hurry up and get 'a moving. You've only got 5 weeks to prepare for the biggest change in your life. Good luck.

If I'm not mistaken, you can't get a police clearance from the US.

Tones? What tones? You mean the Chinese language and dialects are tonal? Who'd have guessed?B) http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....cd841df17870726

How does your SO handle death
frank1538 replied to david_dawei's topic in Culture & Language Discussion
Customs and traditions are likely to vary for region to region. I asked the same question when Jingwen's dad died: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....cd841df17870726 -
Taking Cash to China
frank1538 replied to shutterme2's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
Probably not, but I don't doubt some speculators are buying RMB now at 8.27 or there abouts. If China goes through with its devaluation, say to 7.00 or about 15%, that's a pretty good return if the devaluation occurs in a year or so and you are able to buy dollars at the devalued price. They don't call it speculation for nothing. -
Don't know if you live in a large city, but many herb shops and health food stores carry it. You can also buy online.
-
Roots, roots, roots. Figure anywhere from $100-$150 for an ounce, but you can buy less.

American ginseng is prized the world over. I would certainly recommend it.

You're rounding third and heading for home. Good luck.

Anyone gets P3 twice as me?
frank1538 replied to joray's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I can only say that GZ mailed the P3 twice to Jingwen. Jingwen never received the first. The second was sent after some follow up with GZ. How much time expired between your first P3 and your second? As Gene noted, double check the contents and confirm that GZ received the first set. Although GZ rarely admits to making mistakes, they do happen from time to time. -
I agree wholeheartedly. Also, I think one's attitude is important - not acting or looking vulnerable. Sometimes when I'm out, I've got to take on that New York walk attitude - I know what I'm doing, I'm on a mission, don't f**k with me. Unfortunately, it's a lot easier for an American male to do this in China that for a Chinese female to do this in America.

Oregon Get Together 4

Can't wait to see more. Wish I could've been there. -
Yea, sometimes the chicks leave the nest, but you never know. Maybe some will return. It's kinda like my mom - raised four sons and still keeps the big house. Come on mom, your youngest is 49. "Well, I'll keep a candle burning just in case."

Judging from your current avatar, I'd say not a problem. Jingwen feels safer in America than she did in China. She's bothered more by the petty theft that was there but not really here where we live. She has been shielded from the real danger zones of the city, but I think martial arts would be a good thing to explore if you are concerned.

kicking myself
frank1538 replied to ptcrusier333rph's topic in General Visa Discussion & First Steps
I didn't get any personal/relationship correspondence certified - just the birth certificate and other governmental documents. -
Welcome to Candle. Several of our members have been able to get the process expedited due to pregnancy. One that immediately comes to mind can be found here: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index....f=2&t=7105&st=0. You might try a search, but be sure to set your search paremeters to more than 30 days. Just one piece of fatherly advice. Unless you are planning on having children anyway, I would not recommend getting pregnant solely to expedite the visa process.

Same here. And, she was added without having received her SSN yet.

Sounds to me that holding on to the passport (yes? not visa?) is a good sign, suggesting that once you get the I-864 squared away, they'll give the passport back to Gloria with the visa.

A coat? You don't just stay in bed when it rains in Oregon? If we did we would be in bed 8 months out of the year. Based on the population growth in that part of the country, I'd bet that's what a lot of folks are doing. -
I'd say yes, if the stuff you own can be converted to cash within a year. "Personal property" is a term of art as used here. It doesn't mean stuff you own personally. Rather, it means stuff you own that isn't real estate like the house.

We filed for AP after Jingwen had filed for AOS. It took about three months. Your mileage may vary.

FILING AOS but son will arrive later!
frank1538 replied to John & Hai Yan's topic in AOS & Immigration Challenges
First, good to hear from you John. It's been a while. I haven't thought this all the way through but, if you are concerned about filing AOS after 90 days, why could you not go ahead and file Hai Yan's AOS now in order to get the advance parole going? As Don says, she will not be able to get advance parole in advance of filing for AOS. If you want her to return to China to accompany her son, I'm not sure you'll have any choice but to go ahead and file just her AOS now so she can get advance parole. Based on the fact that you guys were married within the 90 days, when her son arrives on a K-2, I believe he would be immediately eligible to file for AOS, but I do not believe you can file before he arrives. When I did AOS simultaneously for Jingwen and her kids, I basically had to duplicate everything anyhow, so I'm not sure if filing sequentially would be more burdensome. -

Does anyone have a map to pick up the visa

Here's a link to a map of Shamian Island. I5 is the Post Office, but I don't know if it's the evil twin that feathers268 encountered. http://members.fortunecity.com/shamian/ -
