My wife had her friend in NYC send her a drivers manual from NY that was in Chinese. And she took the practice tests on the DMV website over and over. She showed her Chinese DL when we went to get the LP, and they did not want to give her the LP. Later after 2 tries, she passed the test and got the DL.
Thank you. I will begin searching for Learners Permit study materials in Chinese. Did so in the past, and Driver License website did not have anything in Chinese, but I will continue to look.
Wish the written test could be taken online as in the past!

My sweet wife has never had a license and we are starting on the study portion for written test for Learners Permit. Tough challenge. She must translate study material and not sure when she will be ready to take test. Mass-transit is the pits down here and can't say I want to see my sweet wife driving on the same roads as some of these nuts down here!

We actually DID have to get immunizations and a book with vaccinations given in GUZ after receiving K-1 at post office in GUZ and then were required to get form I-693 completed by a US immigration- type doctor ($70....negotiable) prior to AOS. He wanted to give another shot but I objected and didn't get it.

I've got Vista on one computer and XP on the other four. Vista sucks!! It's slow and over does the protection thing--It's a royal pain. XP is light years better!
absolutely agree. I install large format printer RIP software for a living and Vista makes my work day miserable with it's "over-zealous" protection.

yes now that she is finaly here do i get her the social security card now are after we marry, we will marry by end of december
in an effort to keep our wedding day romantic, we headed right over to the social security office with marriage certificate. It saved us a name change future visit.

I think what others have suggested may be better than what I have, but I purchased something from BBK Educational Electronics Corp for my wife and I before we first met. Each was something like $99 and helped us through the beginning. As a paper back dictionary (which my wife loves and carries every where) is the Langenscheidt Yellow Chinese-American and reverse, and is excellent and durable. (BooksAMillion)

But - remove all the cables, and put all the cables back in, turn it on, listen for BEEPS, and COUNT the BEEPS.
Any tech will want to know the BEEP COUNT.
You sure you don't have a good tech in your area ? Most charge 60 bucks/hour for in -house bench time.
FWIW, don't reformat the hard drive - save it, put it in new computer as secondary drive.
Maybe not a great idea?....what if problem turns out to be virus related?

My computer has been acting up lately. Today I could not pull it up at all. It just said no signal on the screen. I tried and tried to restart it but to no avail.
My wife and I where planning on buying a new computer after she arrived here in the USA. Now we may have our hand forced to buy one now. What kind of programs are the market now like Vista etc. My computer knowledge is on the scale of a Laurel and Hardie movie. Funny but not to bright. Any suggestions?
I'm kind of a tinkerer and would be looking at video (monitor) cable connection at back of computer and/or maybe video card (cheap to replace these days).
As a large format printer installer who delves into many client's computers daily, I do not like Vista operating system or HP's computers that are packed with tons of HP's proprietary protective software, or McAfee or Norton). Sorry Vista or HP fans. Nice computers, but sometimes monsters to install on.
How about calling Dell and have them configure something over the phone with Windows XP. They can do that. Good luck. Honestly think it may just be video card. Perhaps boot computer and keep pressing F8 during boot and see if it starts in "Safe-mode"? Then perhaps it is just video card driver?

Dont have all the facts. Wife has a friend in Texas.
She is the second wife. This family has a resturant
in Texas. It seems she was more or less a slave.
In the familys home she couldnt even decide what
color bed sheets to put, could never even shut the
door to her room to use the computor, the family
wouldn't allow it. We would call her so called husband
a mommies boy. She demanded they get their own place
so they got pretty much a hotel room. With the familys
blessing as long as it was in her name, not hubbys.
I dont know all but long put short she went back to
China for a couple weeks and found out from there
they didnt want her to come back for any reason.
They took it upon themself (hubby to). To be .gov
and demand her not to come back. She did come
back, all she has is her wal-mart job and a hotel room,
and real bad advice how she should go from here.
We dont know the full story but her side of it belive
is true. We dont know how to give her legal advice.
We cant. Anyone know of a good lawyer in Texas
wouldnt cost her a arm and a leg?
Good luck from us also. Had similar neighbor/wife's English class friend in same awful situation. Fortunately, she has been attending church since in the US and I suggested (due to limited finances) that she share her story with fellow Chinese church attendees and have been recently told they are helping her get out of lousy marriage and acquire places to stay. Breaks our heart to see this lovely lady (60 years old) go through such anguish, BUT her miserable, soon to be ex-husband, is dying and she will finally be rid of this man and her family who have treated her so poorly this last year and a half. (he basically just used her to care for him as his health fails.
(had to edit my previous angry response), but I must say, my wife and I were distraught and felt so helpless when she would call crying, and hyper-ventilating, and feeling so trapped. It was very sad and I hope your gal has a happy ending too. : )
No need to edit feel the same way. Know well the helpless. She does the same, calls at midnight sometimes. She is in a by the week place or something, she calls and hangs up wife has to call her back. She calls maybe two of three times a month for about 4 months now. I can tell she is getting advice from people she don't understand. I think the only resource she has is wal-mart co-workers and locals from a small texas town. Will get wifey to find out how shes doing now. Not heard from her for about two weeks.
Perhaps pm me and my wife can offer a comforting voice if both are willing to share phone numbers. Breaks my heart to hear of somebody living this kind of life...not quite the dream they were hoping for....Please let us know if we can offer some verbal support. : )

Well it looks like my wife and I have one more shot at it. Our interview is in November. I never dreamed it would have taken me 3 years and 8 months from my first filing, then denial, and now to an IR1. I do not see any reason on God's earth that we should be denied for as we have covered all bases. But as I tell everyone, it is up to the person behind the window as he/she has the final say.
It will be our 2nd wedding anniversary, our 4th year anniversary of meeting, and our first anniversary of buying our first house together. Yes indeed, November has been a very good month for us. Let's hope the tradition continues.
You KNOW you both have our best wishes!!!! We have been pulling for you and following your unpleasant experience so please know we wish you the very best and look forward to hearing the great news!!!!

Yes basically due to circumstances out of your control, it's a personal decision as to whether to be there or not.
Trips to China are good (healthy to your visa chances), but short periods between trips is good also,
Comfort levels are good.
Use your best judgement.
I absolutely wanted to be there for morale support and to be there for my sweet Fang's interview. We were in this together and I wanted to see it through all the way together. I'm sure it also didn't hurt having my fiancee hand over BOTH of our passports when they requested to see hers.
In retrospect, if your gal does not pass her interview, I think it even more important to be there to comfort her. That was not a pretty scene to watch and I think being there is crucial.

Yep. I've found that using United's website has been as cheap as anywhere. It's been about four months since I've bought tickets though.

sorry to ride on your post, but I had the same question, but mine was more towards passport and visa. My wifes Chinese passport has time left on it, but K-1 visa is expired. What should she do if we wanted to visit China or another country outside the U.S.? Does green card now allow her to get a U.S. passport and a new visa? Does visa application go through the same channels as I did when I traveled to China? (I used company in California)

Does anyone know where you can watch live converage of the opening ceremony? NBC is only broadcasting the taped ceremony on Friday evening. My wife and I would like to watch it live at 4:30 am PDT on Friday.

we actually did say in our I-129 that we met at blossoms.com and had NO problems at all. I actually liked the people at that website and they were helpful and patient with my questions. One person did however steer me in the wrong direction with the package. Don't worry about the MB issue with that website. : )

WE met at blossoms.com and had no problems and passed first interview. Nice people running site, made it clear that they ARE NOT a marrigiage broker, did a good job with I-129, missed the boat on a bit of info for AOS (so I opted to learn as much as possible at CFL and do AOS myself) and wanted to write to tell you not to worry!!!
