  1. bummer... can you at least pick it up on Saturday??? My fiance is still in GUZ waiting... going to the PO morning and afternoon since Wed., and still nothing. We thought since he got the PINK on Wed. it should be at the PO today! Needless to say he's getting a little bored of waiting around in GUZ with nothing to do and no idea when he can *really, actually* pick up the visa. Anyone have an idea??? Maybe Monday?
  2. Yeah, that's weird though that they made your wife pay 40 yuan instead of the standard twenty-some... I've always been told whenever I mailed EMS that it was always less than twenty-five anywhere across China. Unfortunately my Sweetheart is still waiting in GUZ, he went to the PO this morning and his stuff hadn't arrived yet. Hopefully tomorrow or Saturday. He's already been hanging out there for a week It's really a bummer that they won't mail it out...
  3. haha, no, ·ÅÐÄ£¬he called me right away... he knew I would literally be clinging to my cell phone with a racing heart. We've been looking forward to this day for so long, it's just like a dream come true! Thanks so much for the congrats!
  4. Wow, I knew it!!! CONGRATULATIONS!!! Blessings on you both!!! Wonderful!!!
  5. Wow, thanks for documenting all that for us! I'm sorry to hear about your ordeal, but glad you guys got it straightened out! We just stayed in a local 7 Days Inn, so we don't have any great stories to tell! I totally know what you mean about messing up the file during the interview... I felt the same way, but Will is a very clean and organized kind of guy, so that set my mind at ease... he wanted to do everything just right too Sleep well you two! We can't wait to hear tomorrow's results!!!
  6. Thanks Peoples! xiaofeizhu, don't worry, I'll stick around I'd love to see some pics of you and your hubby sometime!
  7. YEP! When we were in Gunagzhou we went to the bank to pay the fee, waited in line for quite some time only to find out that we needed to have my wife's Chinese passport, so before leaving the bank I pulled another number and we went back to to the appartmet that we had wit the Yangs, got the passport, and returned, by the time we got back to the bank, they just called our number. Banks in China remind me of the DMV here in NY. That's funny about grabbing a new number... good idea. Yeah, actually, the DMV where I'm from in WI is the same way. Ugh, I hate that place
  8. like dnoblett said, no you don't. The bank is easy to find, and the service there is very good, however you will likely have to wait quite awhile before your number is called. In the meantime you will see lots of others who have their visa paperwork in their hands, getting ready to pay the fee. It's encouraging to strike up and friendly conversation with a few and learn of their interview experiences, or lack of them!
  9. Wow, sounds like you did exactly what we did... Seriously I think xiaofeizhu's long list there is perfect... thanks for noting all that down!
  10. Honestly, that was something I too wondered about with my fiance's birth certificate, police record, etc... and I worried needlessly! Like mentioned above, as long as you went to the local public notary and got that white book with black letters on the cover that says ¡°³öÉúÖ¤¡± you have nothing to worry about... that's the right stuff!
  11. Well, for us, a call-in letter IS good news! My Sweetie just called, picked up his PINK paper 5 mins ago! *victory dance* B) He payed the 20 some yuan and got a receipt that says to pick up his visa passport/package on Thanksgiving morning, 9 am, at the designated PO! We couldn't be more excited; the long haul for the US visa for the love of my life is over!!! As soon as he gets home on Friday we're going out to buy our flight tickets, and then we'll buy our rings, and then we'll start packing! My parents are helping us pull together a decent (and hopefully beautiful!) wedding shortly after our arrival, official date now set for March 20, 2010. It feels so amazing to finally be able to set the date and start making plans. Ahhh... I feel like I just breathed a breath of the freshest air! Allow me once again to give my heartiest thanks and appreciation for all you dear folks at CFL, and all the insight, advice, and encouragement you've been for us during this "long haul"! I would unhesitatingly recommend CFL to others going through the same visa stress with their Chinese loved one! Blessings and THANKS to all!!!
  12. Xilan is driving there as I type. She drove there yesterday to drop off the passports and back today to "get the results". I really don't understand since she said it will be another 2-3 days to get it in the mail. Todd Wow, I wonder if Xilan and my fiance will run into each other... Will is also picking up his "results" today, and I was confused about the additional wait, too...
  13. Our experience was that an EOR is very important, regardless of whether or not you've been married before. Obviously neither I nor my fiance has been married before, however I wrote a very detailed, 3 page (back and front) EOR addressed to "Dear Sir or Madam, US Consulate Immigration Officer," and told my Sweetie to hand it in along with my passport. I honestly thing it was a huge deciding factor in his not getting white or blue for lack of a bona fide... NOTE: I did not get mine notarized, because the only available day for me was Columbus day, and they were closed at the Consulate. However it didn't seem to make a difference that it wasn't notarized. I signed a new printed "Intent to Marry" AND wrote a detailed EOR, (against my lawyer's advice... ) and stuck it in my passport with my drivers' license. Will said he handed the passports in first, and then said, "Here are some letters that my Fiancee wrote for you, would you like to see them?" She said "Yes, I would," and looked at them for a couple minutes and said, "Thank you, I'm going to keep these..." and then my Will handed in our 70+ pictures, which he said she really enjoyed looking at, and even smiled some. It was obvious that if it wasn't for financial reasons, he would've passed easily that day, and I really think it's before I worked hard on that EOR letter, and we got together A LOT of really *nice* pictures starting from the first day I set foot in China until Oct. 2009. So my advice would be, by all means, prepare those things well! It might save you!
  14. Well I assume we're good to go since they did ask for his passport.
  15. Yes, the call-in letter comes in English and Chinese... (a paragraph of English, and then of Chinese) It's very easy to understand, don't worry.
  16. Okay so basically he won't be getting the visa tomorrow when he goes back... he said they told him to come back at 2:30 tomorrow for the result, so after I've done some more searching on here, I'm assuming that the result will be the PINK, and he'll have to stay on in GUZ to wait to pick up the visa there. Bummer, I miss him
  17. My fiance just turned in his passport and call-in letter today... they said to come back tomorrow afternoon and pick up "the results." I'm assuming that either he gets a pink paper tomorrow and then has to turn that in somewhere too or else he actually gets the visa tomorrow?! Can some tell me how that all works? Someone told me that because we live in Guilin they won't be willing to EMS the visa to us, and he has to wait a couple days in GUZ to pick up the visa, is that correct?
  18. My Fiance just called me. He handed in his passport and letter at the Consulate at about 2:30. They gave him a receipt and told him to come back tomorrow for the results. Does that mean he will get a pink paper tomorrow and then have to wait two more days to pick up the visa at the PO or does that mean he gets the visa right away tomorrow?! I thought it worked a little different so now we're wondering what the deal is....
  19. Good luck and God speed! I'm sure everything will go great! Please let us know as soon as you get your results... and congrats in advance!
  20. My fiance and I have been concerned about what will happen to the property deeds and apartment, stocks, etc., that he owns here in China once he becomes a citizen, because it's all under his name and ID number here... Does anyone know if they will allow him to switch everything over to his US ID once he becomes a Citizen, or will they confiscate it all claiming he doesn't exist as a person belonging to China anymore? I suggested we go to the local police station here and make an inquiry, but my fiance said he's not sure if that's a good idea. It would be great if someone has experience with this and can give some advice, just in case there is anything we need to do before we leave in a couple months! Thanks!!
  21. I have a friend married to a Chinese man and she and her children always stay in China on "Visiting Family" visas... they are good for a year. However her husband hasn't ever even been to the States... But from what she said, I was under the impression that any extended family that either party has living in China makes you eligible for that visa... Anyone else have experience with this?
  22. Thanks so much everyone... We are SO happy... just bursting with joy and relief! He's in GUZ now, tomorrow he'll apply to pick up the visa... is it true that they'll ask him to wait two days to get it? Is there any way he can get the visa the same day?! And hey, I can't wait to stuff his mouth with cheese... and a cheese head sounds like a great idea. Quite frankly, I'm really starved for cheese myself!
  23. Wow, Congratulations on finally getting the visa!!!
  24. Wo gao xing se le! Wow, I'm going to faint from happiness! Fiance just got the call-in letter with one box checked: "Congratulations, your visa is approved." It's so amazing, last night I was praying that today (which happens to be my birthday) that letter would come... and it did! We're going "home" for Christmas... it's been SO long, I can hardly believe soon we will actually be MARRIED! haha Thanks SO much for CFL's help and everyone's support! It's been such a blessing... I'm so happy... WE are so happy
