  1. I handed the -693 instructions to this doctor, pointed out those lines, and she still told me she did not understand what she was to do unless she did the complete examination. I was also told I had to pay for flu shots for both as well, even though it does not say that anywhere. That was another $50. I would think these surgeons would be trained to understand the rules if they are on a list of accepted surgeons. I guess when there is that much money to be made, it is easy to say they dont understand.
  2. The civil surgeon office I chose told me I had to have complete medical exams again even though we had just had that done in July. Her reason: "I dont know how to fill out the forms". It cost me $460 ( $230 each )for the exams, and another $95 for another xray for my wife. If anyone can shed some light on this transcription deal I would appreciate. Maybe I can get my money back for the un-needed exams. Thanks, Jim...
  3. If they would not look at the evidence your wife brought to the interview, they obviously saw something they did not like in your original documents. I would look at those again, and see if there was something you did not explain well. I wrote what I thought was a good evolution letter, and after our "Blue" rewrote it adding more detail. I also detailed more clearly how we communicate since this was one of the items they were worried about. I detailed my two trips in another letter, and added pictures alongside the text to further document this. If you have pictures that show wedding rings that is a good thing. ( not something you normally think about when posing though, sticking your ring finger out ! ). In this letter I also specifically stated that I was paying for the things we did and bought, unless my wife did the paying. Send any receipts you had from trips you took, and send your wife copy of your travel tickets to China. I found after I got married that it is common for one parent to pay someone else to get their kid into the US for school. I think this is why they are so picky about kids, especially if there is a language barrier as in our case. The birth certificate was not enough, and we had to provide a lot of additional documentation,pictures... to prove her relationship to her own son. Letters from close friends and relatives is good as long as you get them translated and notarized. I also used a calling card to make calls during the week, and even though they said they would not accept this as proof, I sent this along with statements from my home phone of calls I made. You can only give what you have and hope they accept it. Any documents you do not have, you just need to state your case as to why you do not have them. Aside from the marriage license, we only had a dinner. Fortunately my wife hired a photographer and we have a video of the event. I took snaps of different scenes from the video and included them in our package of evidence. They have to understand the culture is a little different than in the US, but I feel they are just looking for signs of a normal relationship. It took us one month to re-organize this additional evidence after the blue. Dont rush this process because you have been given a good chance for pink. Take the time to prepare your evidence properly and thouroughly. It took another month for them to get our stuff and read it. Once that happened my wife received a call-in letter stating she just had to bring her passports back to Guangzhou to get her visa. Best of luck to you, Jim...
  4. Thank you for the information. Yes I filed I-130 for both, so I am assuming I do not need to do that again. I can use the $710 for something crazy, like food... Ning and Jim...
  5. I have just the opposite problem; "THE STEPSON FROM HELL !!!" I am wishing he WOULD want to go back to China. My friends try to tell me it is a cultural thing, but this kid was miserable in China and he has brought his misery here. I had hoped coming here would wake him up and show him how fortunate he really is to be here, but he just doesnt get it. I told my wife this kid was going to a therapist because he needs it badly. Has anyone experience a similar situation with their step-children and found a resonable solution ( other than deportation ) ???
  6. I see a lot of references to A# and Alien Registration number on the AOS forms. Should a K3/K4 visa have this number yet, and if so, where is it?
  7. I have issues with some of the calendar fields with the newer forms (G325 in particular). I was told by USCIS that it is okay to hand-write into these fields if necessary.
  8. You need to file the I-765 for your son so that he can get SS. SS can't be required, but there are many situations where it is expected (especially school and insurance). For the price (free), don't pass it up. Yes anything that is $free$ from this government; grab it !!! SSN for my medical insurance is required. Also the schools in Virginia prefer that all students have SSN, so I plan to submit EAD for him as well. Ning and Jim...
  9. My wife's girlfriend told us she received "stuff" after 2 weeks of POE, but I did not think to ask what visa type she came in as. Thanks to the wonderful information here I have a clear picture of what I need to do, and when I should do it. Thanks to all, Ning and Jim...
  10. Excellent information. I feel less stupid now. I filed an I-130 for both wife and son and received confirmations for both, and I am assuming all I need now is I-485's for both, and an I-765 for my wife. I think I will wait until November to file the AOS. If I choose to file EAD now, is this process quick, or is it best to just wait until we file AOS? She does not have plans to work immediately but I wanted to get the SSN's asap. I appreciate the feedback, Ning and Jim...
  11. My wife and son arrived in the US with K3/K4 visa on August 16, and I was expecting to received a package from the INS. I have attemted to call INS, DOS, GOD with no success to find out exactly what I need to do next. DOS tells me to call INS/DHS, and I was unable to get a real person on that number. Can anyone give me some guidance on what documents I should expect to receive from whom-ever should be sending them, and also what steps I need to take, and when I should take them??? I found this link: http://candleforlove.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=29296 but according to the description, it seems that I dont do anything until 90 days prior to the 2 year anniversary of their arrival here, which is 2011. Either the process is really confusing and the government employees suck, or I am just plain stupid !!! Thanks in advance, Ning and Jim...
  12. Congratulations on the quick Journey. After 22 (really long) months my wife and I will finally be living on the same side of the planet too. Best of luck, Ning and Jim...
  13. You hit it right on the nose "okie2"... I live in the Washington DC area where they are millions of illegals that directly benefit from the taxes you and I pay. No wonder they choose to stay illegal; no rediculous $1000 fees every time you need to file a form, no having to prove their relationships are real, no having to learn a second language; DAMN THEY HAVE IT MADE !!! Just a though ( or was that a rant!!! ).. Ning and Jim...
  14. This is great news !!! After almost 22 months of document writing and waiting, my wife will be arriving here August 16 (YAY). I was wondering if you had found a list of the process, documents that you need to file after POE? I looked on the USCIS website but I could not find anything that explains the entire process after arrival in the US. Beside just enjoying my wifes company, I have no idea what, when and where I should be sending documents. I had a bad experience with our attorney for the visa, so I think I want to jump this next hurdle myself. Best of luck in your future, Ning and Jim...
  15. My wife had her son's birth certificate too but they still were not 100%convinced of the relationship. Even though pictures are not formal evidence, they seem to weigh higher than documents that we take for granted here in the US as fact. We were also asked for contact info for her ex-husband, which unfortunately you are unable to provide. It is difficult to know eaxacly what they want or will accept as truth. I wish you the best of luck. Ning and Jim...
