  1. Thanks! So I guess I can assume that ACH for NIV is held on Monday's That's the way it was when I went and I haven't seen anyone report change. The K1/K3 is handled at the IV session on Friday.
  2. Sorry to be a pain, but I understood that ACH for IV was on Friday's and NIV was on Monday's. Can someone please clarify. Interesting. So one does not need to just go on Friday? Wish you the best Ling & Curt. ACH is held only on Friday, There are 2 groups of windows, 1 group is for US Citizens with problems, like replacing lost passports ect. (31-40) The other group of windows are for foreign immigrants. When attending ACH the US Citizen visits the windows that are for the foreign immigrants. I visited the consulate Friday morning before ACH to find out when ACH will be held (2pm), There is no appointment needed for ACH, just be there slightly before 2pm.
  3. When I make a call from the U.S. to China, I normally dial the number as follows: 011 86 20 12345678. Assuming I was in GUZ how would I dial that number?

Good tips! Business casual sounds good for the ACH. Don't know about the long sleeve shirt. I understand it gets pretty hot and sticky in GUZ I've just returned from China with my SO in my arms For normal days and evenings, dress causally - jeans or khakis. Nice tee-shirts or collar-shirts. If you are going to attend the Friday ACH, I recommend wearing business causal. I personally put on a nice black dress pants with oxford shoes, long sleeves shirt with a sharp looking tie. IMO, you want to give the VO a good impression of you. Also, for your SO's interview dress code, the first impression is vital. The day before my SO's interview, we shopped around in Guangzhou and I purchase a 3 piece business casual suit for her. In addition, ask your SO not to wear fancy earrings and/or carry branded handbag; after all, she is attending an interview, not a fashion show! Anyways, that's my opinion...it worked extremely well for my SO and she received the approval after only 10 questions.

    Dress Code

Hahaha... Don't take offense to what I'm about to say, but you--as a lao wei--will look out of place no matter what in GZ. Shorts will be fine for walking around or touring. But shorts may not be the best idea if you're going to have dinner with your SO's in-laws. Save the slacks for dinner. Shorts will be fine walking around. I figured I would look out of plac anyway. I just don't want to make matters worse.

Would I look out of place wearing shorts in GUZ or should I stick with jeans and casual slacks? I like to wear shorts but don't want to look out of place.
  7. I've been to Brazil several times. Buffet style and the waiters will bring fresh cooked meat in skewers. The restaurants in Brazil will place an wooden hourglass shaped piece on the table. Half is green and half red. When the red half is on top the waiters will not come to your table. It give you the opportunity to chat or have drinks without being disturbed. The waiters will only come to your table to serve you when you flip the hourglass shaped piece on green. Really cool! How good was the food?

88.46% for K1 is good. Makes me feel a bit better. I guess the kitchen sink approach should help get us through this process. B) Yep, I was prepared to do that myself. If we received a blue slip, I was going to mail overcome evidence directly from the US to GUZ myself. Of course my SO would be calling and trying to obtain an overcome appointment concurrently. But I personally would definitely do both. All of this overcome business has me worried. Are blue slips common? Any percentages on blue slips vs pink? Is this a GUZ thing or is it common practice with consulates worldwide? the CFL 2006 passing rate can be seen here... at Timeline Thread: http://www.candleforlove.com/FAQ/Timelines/Gr...ats_By_Visa.htm

  10. Hi I am interested in your room rate for my SO and I. I am currently looking at Departing U.S. on March 28 (29th for you). Looking at staying until April 6th. Your rooms have TV, etc and are they private? Thanks
  11. I know the information is here somewhere, but I just can't find it. I want to sen my SO the money for her travel, medical exam and interview, etc. How much is the fee that she will be charged for her intereview. We are filing for the K-1 petition. Thanks!

Good luck to you. Let us know how things turn out.
  13. I plan to assemble as much as possible befoe I meet with my SO. I figure we can go over everything together before her interview. I'm just waiting for her to let me know when she receives her P4 and the interview date so that I can make my reservations.
  14. with any luck, your SO will get to the interview as mine did.. fully prepared and organized, confident to pull out any request.. and then leave the interview very angry as mine did... that the VO didn't ask for more, but just gave the visa One can only hope. Thanks!
  15. Understood! I have already prepared the letter. I guess I have to struggle with as you say the letter vs the spirit of what is required Geez! I just want to get married. I'm not apply for the FBI or CIA. Two things we alway have to juggle: 1) Letter of the law (what they say they will ask for) 2) Spirit of the law (what they actually ask for) The fact is, the VOs are asking for the petitioner "ex" in many cases. We know this and it's best not to push it off as 'not on the consulate form'... I'm not saying your doing that.. I just showing that we have to be careful how we might be too strict to the 'letter of the law' when the spirit of GUZ is flying overhead... based on the droppings of member's shoulders, we learn alot about what GUZ just had for lunch.
  16. I pulled the link and read the "Letter to K1/K2 Applicants". It states the following: "Submit these items during the interview" "If you were married previously, please bring in documents containing the following information for your interview; your ex spouse's name, date of birth, social security number (if applicable), last know address and telephone number" The letter is addressed to the applicant and not the petioner. The above statement refers to the applicant and not requesting that the petioner provide social security numbers, etc. That is how I read it. I'll give my SO the letter but that is my interpretation. What can I say. B) I posted this earlier today in another thread... The consulate now expects this information to be on hand. The requirements change often.. it's important we stay on top of the changes... this is one of the newest changes. Will the VO ask for it? The trend has been to ask for this in some cases.. just look at the History Timeline blue slip tab. This is not to send a scare... the fact is, we have been informed by the consulate.. so it's up to each to act accordingly to prepare how they feel they should. Furnishing another's social security number is taken it a bit too far, like in, that's the straw that broke the camel's back! It's almost funny......but not really! I know that VO's have asked for information on former spouse's whereabouts in certain circumstances but it is rare and I believe most applicants can provide it if needed. And for those faced with extreme difficulties in trying to obtain this information, I wouldn't worry about it. I haven't heard too many people report such incidents in having to provide former spouse's information except in cases being scrutinized or under suspicion. And what if the VO asks for it? Just provide it in the overcome. Chances are they won't ask for it if everything is on the level and believe me, they will know if everything is on the level or not. I'm curious to see a copy of the requirements in this new letter. I haven't been able to find any information about it. CFL FORMS. here's the direct link
  17. Givin the government the ssn is not the problem. She gave me the impression that she was consulting with others in China and I did not want her showing my ssn or my ex-wife's ssn and my financials to just anyone. I understand now why she is asking for the information, and I will be happy to turn it over to her when I see her in GUZ. I have prepared a letter address to the U.S. Embassy in GZ and although I do not know my ex-wife's whereabouts I have provided her lawyer's name, address and telephone number in my letter. Hope that will be enough. Thanks again guys for the update Your giving the government a SSN which they issued in the first place.. so I assume it is you don't want your SO to see it. You can provide something to your SO in the form of an [sealed] envelope with information to hand over for a specific question..
  18. I can certainly provide my ex-wife's name, DOB and yes her SSN. I just don't feel comfortable giving out SSN's. I guess I can prepare the letter and hand it over to my SO when I see her in GZ before the interview. As far as her current address is concerned, I can probably provide her lawyer's name, address and phone number in the letter. I posted this earlier today in another thread... The consulate now expects this information to be on hand. The requirements change often.. it's important we stay on top of the changes... this is one of the newest changes. Will the VO ask for it? 19. Fantastic stuff! One question. I have not had any contact with my ex-wife since we divorced. I have no idea where she lives other than the fact that she still lives in the Houston area and that she has given birth to a newborn. I don't even know if she remarried or if she is living with someone and had the baby out of wedlock. My SO keeps asking me for a letter giving details relating to my exwife's current address and social security number. I don't know where she lives and I don't understand why I must provide my ex-wife's social security number. What is up with that?
  20. That is truely funny! Mayb you can replace your coffee table with the old TV and put a flower arrangement on top.
  21. Maybe someone has already asked this question, but with most of China shut down because of Spring Festival, will the Embassy be operational next week?
  22. That I can do. Thanks Think Houston in May
  23. Thanks! Great info. Sounds like it may be warmer than I expected
