  1. Houston is great! We have one of the largest Chinese communities in the United States. Go to Bellaire Blvd inside the Beltway. Full of Chinese restaurants and supermarkets. Street signs are in Chinese characters. I sent some pictures to my SO and she was extremely happy when I told her that our Chinatown is only about 20 minutes away from home.
  2. That is truly funny. I just got off the phone with Yang Bo. I asked her if she wanted to keep her name after we get married or change to my last name. She paused and resonded with "whatever". Surprised me.
  3. Thanks for the tip. Just got off the phone with Yang Bo. After several attemps at pronouncing "Nai Lao", she finally got it. She says she likes it "a little", but her 4 y/o daughter loves it.
  4. Sh is nic and slim and I hope she stays that way. The other day she told me she was eating too much and her parents told her she was getting fat. When I told her that I liked that she just laughed.
  5. Wow! That is quite a list of heart healthy western cuisine My SO is from Wuhan. Maybe it was my lame discription of cheese which she was unable to understan. I tried the McDonalds approach but it did not seem to work. Another member gave me the Chinese word for cheese, so I think I will try again tonight SO and me trade-off very much in this matter. She cooks as good as ANY resturuant in China, and would actually rather cook here at home than go to a resturuant. She LOVES hotdogs,Twix candy bars (ofcourse she quite due to "inflating"),Cheeze-Its,Sweet Lebanon Bologna sandwiches,Grape soda,Taco Bell,my home made chile and BBQ chicken, cole slaw, tossed salads,Cheetoes Cheese Puffs, many other "fat western foods".She does know what to indulge in and what not too.She came here w/ an open mind and I try to let her try everything as I did when I was in China for awhile. We both think it's very cool "trading off" our cultures and cuisines.
  6. While I was in China my SO and I ate some very fine Chinese food. I remember before we parted company, we had lunch and she stated that she was a very good cook. My hotel had a restaurant which served western style food, but she did not seem interested in trying it out. I know that when she arrives, my diet will consists mainly of Chinese food and to be honest it will probaby be healthier than some of the crap that I am eating now. What have been some of the experiences of members with trying to get their SO's to eat western food? Side note: I had read somewhere that Cheese was not part of the diet in China. I tried to describe cheese to my SO the other day during a phone conversation. I had a real tough time and finally gave up

    SO's Job

Hi! I was just thinking that since she has a good job and education that the VO would look at it as a positive. As you say, I would hope that it would be taken into account when determining if she would met the public charge requirement. I believe her background (and that includes education and work experience) are indeed relevant when the VO takes into account of the totality of the case when trying to determine whether she'll meet the public charge requirement. Her petitioner's own financial situation will of course be a huge factor as well.

    SO's Job

My SO has a position as a General Office Clerk with the Chinese Railroad Co. Will the VO look at the fact t at she has had a good job for over ten years as a positive?
  9. This may sound stupid, but I have been thinking about this for a while. What is the custom regarding SO's name. My SO's name is Yang Bo. Yang being her surname and Bo her given name. My name is Anthony B_________. When we get married would it be a good idea for her to simply keep her name as is? If she takes on my last name, then how do we show it when we file for her SSN? Bo B_______? Or Bo Yang-B___________? We need to get this right the first time.
  10. I posted a message on the GZ thread but have not seen a response to date. I think what I will try and do is send them an email and provide them with my fiance's daughter's correct first name. Thanks guys A misspelling on the G-325A is a minor problem, GZ will most likely fix this for you. Now the I-129F NEEDS!! to be fixed NOW!! Looking at your time line i would be calling GZ and telling them whats up! Fax them the correct spelling as soon as possible. There are many threads in GZ SPEAKS that should help you out!!
  11. Thanks guys! My fiance is concerned that our age difference might be a factor in the VO's decision.
  12. Sprry need to make my question clear. How much weight does the interview give an age differential when approving a visa (K-1). Let's say 20 years plus
  13. A previous post referred to a misspelling of the beneficiary's name on the G-325A. Does the U.S. Consulates response also apply if the beneficiary's child's first name was misspelled on the I-129F and the G-325A. This is assuming that NVC has already forwarded the package to Guangzhou?
  14. A previous post referred to misspelling of Beneficiary's name on G-325A. The response was very clear. Does the same apply if the Beneficiary's daughter's first name was misspelled on the I-129F and G-325A Thanks
  15. I guess I am lucky. I live in Sugar Land, Texas (just outside Houston). We have the 4th largest Chinatown in the U.S. and it is about 15 minutes from home. I have visited their Chinese Cultural Center and discovered that they have an ESL program. Additionally, they conduct classses in Business English, Computer Science and Accounting. I was also very surprised to find that they also have a job placement service. The street signs are in Chinese Characters as well as business signs such as banks, restaurants, ect. I took some pictures and emailed them to Yang Bo. She sounds like she is looking forward to shopping and making friends.
