  1. Late last night Guiping called to tell me she passed her interview. Her visa was issued the same day. My wife and step daughter will be here in Iowa in exactly 30 days. It feels so good to finally know the day Good luck to all who are still waiting. ----Bob
  2. Hi, The namecheck will be submitted after Guangzhou receives and opens the P3 forms. The DOS (Department of State) info line is the way to check on the status. It is 202-663-1225 press 1 then 6 and prepare to sit on hold for quite a while. I usually waited 40 to 60 minutes. Make sure you have the case# from the P3 forms. -----Bob
  3. Rose, I am glad I have been able to help. ---Bob
  4. Hi, MSC will send the file to the NVC and they will foward it to GZ. I am not positive the actual method of sending. I have read they are using FedEx, but they do not open the files as soon as they receive them. The NVC will send a letter stating when the case was transfered. I am not sure the usual time line, but ours was just about 40 days before GZ acknowledged they received the case and assigned the new case# (different from the GUZ # the NVC assigns) I hope this is the info you are needeing. ----Bob
  5. I found it through the link on Richard Sun's website. Bob
  6. Hi, I managed to get the codes. Guiping emailed me her name in Chinese characters and I just pasted them in the tigtag link. It worked perfectly. thanks you for the idea. Rose, The codes need to be written on the DS-156 form where it asks for your name in Chinese. Write in the Chinese and then the codes. ----------Bob
  7. Since I have no way of entering Chinese characters I am unable to use the tigtag search. I can copy and paste into it, though. If anyone would be able to send me Guiping's and my step daughter's name in Chinese characters please PM me and I will give their full names. Thanks very much, Bob
  8. Thanks Mick. I just found the letter where it requests it. I know they are most likely not needed but Guiping is very worried she will make a mistake on th epaperwork. I just better find them to make her feel better. I told her to go to the post office to get them so she may beat me to it. Thanks, ----Bob
  9. Hi all, I have read all I can on these telegraphic codes but I can find what io need. Guiping, called and needs the codes. I have found where to get the codes but I need to know what form she needs them for. I have looked through all the forms she should have but I do not see where they are requested. Am I just blind? If anyone knows what form requests them please let me know. Thanks, Bob
  10. I just received and email from Guiping saying she received P4 yesterday. Looks like almost all the pieces of the puzzle are in place. -----------Bob
  11. Hi Don, I hope your case is close on the heels of ours. Guiping has all the forms needed, they came in P3 (K3 visa) so all we need is the appointment letter. My senators office is going to get a copy from GZ for me and I can email it Guiping so she has it. I feel so lucky everything is falling into place. Best of luck to all -----Bob
  12. I called DOS today and was told Guiping's interview is 4/16. I was so happy and shocked I nearly dropped my phone. We are still waiting to receive P4. I wish I could trust GZ enough to make the travel plans. I am so happy to have received some good news. Best of luck and wishes to all who are still waiting. ----Bob
  13. I don't think she has a A number. It's assigned after you file AOS.. Put "None" in the A number field I have to agree with Eric on this one. How can she have a number if she is not an alien yet. I bet all these girls never thought they would be called that before did they? I even asked the lady in Beijing INS when we were there over a year ago, and she asked me if my wife had ever been to the US, if the answer is no there is no way to be registered as an alien yet. I may be wrong on the #. All I know is my contact in my Senator's office requested A# on the 129F NOA2 and from this they have accessed all the info I have needed. Maybe it is a K3 thing?? But I agree maybe it is best to leave it off the forms. -----Bob
  14. Hi, Use the case# from the packet 3 forms. GZ assigns a different case # than the NVC. The A # from the 129F approval is your Alien Registration # and since you have it, I would put it on the form. ----Bob
  15. That is basicly the same response United gave me when I talked to them. I checked into getting her a card but without a SS# no way. I would love to fly to pick her up but I only have one week of vacation left and we think it would be better spent helping her adjust to her new home in Iowa. I appreciate the ideas. Thanks, Bob
  16. You should have no problem getting married as a tourist. The marriage office in Wuhan did not require a residence permit for me. If you stay at a hotel they have to fill out a temporary residence permit for your stay at the hotel, maybe this is what they are requesting. By law, in Wuhan, foreigners are supposed to register at the district police office, for the same residence permit. I never did and had no problem. I cannot guarantee this is accurate for all offices but this is my experience. ----Bob
  17. Hi All, I finally got through to DOS today and was told a "response" was set to GZ on 3/20. I really hope this response is the clearance. They would not tell me anything more than my wife will receive the letter in 5 to 7 days. I am really happy but still cautious in my emotions since I have seen so much misinformation come from the info line. If this is the clearance I hope many more are to come soon. -----Bob
  18. Hi All, In preparation for the day when Guiping receives her visa, I have been going over the plans. I have run into one question I cannot find an answere to. It may seem obvious. I am wondering how to get Guiping the tickets. I have seen many people having flights very soon after returning from GZ. The most obvious way to me is buy the tickets and wait to receive the paper tickets then mail them to Guiping. This will take 2 weeks or more. As far as I can tell E-Tickets are not an option with a flight originating in Wuhan. I plan to use China Southern to Beijing and United to Chicago. Any ideas? Sorry for asking such an obviously dumb question. Thanks, Bob
  19. Tony, Congratulations!!!! Glad to see one more that has been waiting for so long receives the well deserved visa. I am also glad to have one more out the que. Not to sound selfish but with each visa issued it moves us one more notch. I have to think positive these days.
  20. I took the advice and just asked him today. He has chosen an English name to use at work to make it easier for his coworkers and he is comfortable with me using it at work. A solution, I had not thought of. If it works for him it works for me. Thanks all, Bob
  21. Everyone, Thanks for the suggestions. It is nice to get other's perspectives on things such as this. Bob
  22. I have read some on this topic, but this is a little different. Guiping was raised by her aunt and uncle from a very young age. She considers them as her mother and father. I have no problem with calling them mother and father. Her aunt and uncle live here in the US and I see them often. My problem is: My father-in-law recently began working at the same company I do. I do not feel it is appropriate to call him "ba ba" at work and I do not feel comfortable calling him by his first name. I was brought up to address elders properly. I do not want to offend him by incorrectly addressing him. I have talked to Guiping about this and she feels I should just call him ba ba because little if anyone will know what it means. She has a point, but in my position I need to maintain professionalism. I might add he speaks very little English and even though he has been living here for 3 years still goes by the way things are done China. If you have any ideas please let me know. Bob
