  1. Okay, this is the final outcome. Don had his interview. I don't know the whole story, but MuSi did not get her visa. Don will be flying home tomorrow and MuSi and her son will be going back to NanNing. There will be more to post when Don gets home and adds to this. Dorothy
  2. Hi, Dorothy, again. I was able to call Don. He and MuSi are staying at the White Swan Hotel. He tells me he has an interview at the Embassy. The person he hired is not an attorney, but a counselor. (He is an American)They have spent the last couple of days working with them on what to do. Don is not leaving the Embassy without speaking to an American supervisor. So far, it is Chinese employees that have been doing the interviewing. Tell me, what is wrong with this picture?? I find it absurd that it is Chinese employees working at the Embassy who are making these decisions concerning American's and their families. It is an American Embassy, so why aren't the American's making the decisions? Another problem, the embassy is closing down for 7 days for training beginning on Thursday. So, whatever the outcome from the interview later today, he is going to be on a plane coming home tomorrow. I am hoping that he comes home with MuSi and her son. Dorothy
  3. Hi, This is Don & MuSi's friend again. I have spoken with Don a couple of times and this is the story. MuSi went in for her interview, but the interviewer did not even look at the evidence that was presented for proof of relationship. Like I said in my first message, it had pictures from 5 visits, receipts for hotels, copies of Don's passport for proof of entry into China 5 times, phone records and email records. Don was downstairs and he said that the interviewer looked out the window and saw him waiting. He feels that the reason the interviewer didn't believe the relationship was because of the age difference. Don is 70 and MuSi is 34. Believe me, Don does not look like or behave as a man of 70. Physically he is 20 years younger. I have known Don for 4 years. He works out at the gym, and participates in extreme sports. He was a champion motorcycle rider for years. Okay, I'm only trying to let you all know. He is a very young 70 year old man. These two have had an ongoing and loving relationship for 2 years. I hear their phone conversations and they are truly in love. Anyhow, without even looking at the evidence presented or even speaking with Don himself, the interviewer declined the visa with the explanation of, "Lack of proof of relationship." I just got an email from Don today. He has some kind of interview. I don't know if it is with his attorney or the embassy. I just hope things turn out well. He doesn't want to send MuSi and her son back to NanNing. This is a nightmare. He waited so long for this moment to come and now the visa is declined. My heart is breaking for them. What now? Dorothy
  4. Hello Everyone, I am using my friend's Username of Don&MuSi, but my name is Dorothy. Don & MuSi are in Guangzhou as I am typing this. Yesterday, MuSi had her interview and was declined her visa. The interviewer told her they didn't have enough proof of relationship. Now, I helped them prepare all of their information, which consisted of pictures of the two of them from 5 previous trips to China, with validation in Don's passport and airline tickets and reservations. It also included, phone records from phone calls from Don's personal residence phone to MuSi's personal residence phone. Calls were made every day!!! Plus, there were records of tons of email letters from the two of them to each other. Currently, Don has hired an attorney in China to help, but I am hoping someone from this website might have a suggestion. Thanks to all in advance that reply with suggestions. Dorothy
  5. My suggestion to you. Consider using UPS overnight delivery. My fiance lives in NanNing and I discovered that Federal Express does not deliver there. The package I sent sat in a post office for weeks before she was able to get it. UPS delivers in NanNing. Using the overnight delivery service actually gets packages to her in about a week. Check into it and make sure Fed Ex delivers to where you need to send. Good luck! Don
  6. Yes, we're on a roll! We submitted our packet 3 on April 10th and exactly 4 months later we received packet 4 and the date of our interview. Our time frame was much easier than others I have read about and I feel so lucky. Our interview is scheduled for September 19th and I am making plans to bring my fiance and her son home with me hopefully the next day. I have studied all of the cases I could find and compared them with my situation. I think I have done a very good job. After all, I have notarized EVERYTHING and I'm even carrying plastice bags to the Embassy. (Someone's suggestion on this site, Ha!, Ha!) Seriously, my advice to anyone is to dot the I's and cross the T's. Do not ever use the attitude, Oh well, that ought to be good enough. I don't believe that anything is simple. You have to be thorough. Good luck to everyone else who is still waiting and I will let you all know how the interview process went. Don
  7. I call them generally once a week to check on the status of our case. I have been able to get through to them quite easily. The longest I have waited was probably today's call. Approx. 30 minutes wait. I received some information from the woman on the other end that I didn't from the previous phone calls. She told me that the computer that she looks at is not accurate. The computer information is updated by the embassy in Guangzhou, not them, so even though they are looking at a screen that gives them the last activity, it could be further along in actuality and just not in the computer. She said that there have been times when the system doesn't show an interview date and yet the applicant had already received an interview and a visa! She said the most accurate information should be requested directly from the Embassy. (Good Luck, right?) You may be further along than we realize since the DOS's computer isn't up to date.
  8. I have used the new email system twice in the last week and each time got a response back the next day. I have had excellent service with it.
  9. Hi everyone, I just wanted to give everyone here in the U.S. that makes regular long distance calls to China a heads up on some cheap rates. I have a calling card that I purchase on BigZoo.com. It is rechargable, by using a credit card and you can access all of your telephone charges online. Because it is so cheap, I can call my fiance twice a day!!! I encourage everyone who wants to be able to hear their loved ones voices often, to try it. Don
  10. Dear Friends, I would like to give you a report on my recent trip to Guangzhou China. I and my fiance MuSi, went to the U.S. Embassy on April 10th. I had planned to do this to save time and the risk of my packet 3 being lost in the mail. I submitted the packet 3 info without incident. I will have to admit to you, my friends, we were concerned about SARS. I stayed in the Garden Hotel, a five star hotel. Unlike previous trips, we limited our site seeing and venturing outside the hotel. We thought that the safest place for us to be was in our room in the hotel. We also took all of the precautions using masks, gloves and hand wash to kill bacteria. I left Guangzhou via China Southern and caught my connecting flight in Shanghai and back to San Francisco. After returning to the U.S., I put myself into voluntary quarantine for 10 days and have no symptoms. On the otherhand, my fiance who lives in NanNing, has developed a cough. She has none of the other symptoms related to SARS, but I am very concerned. I am a professional man and has dealt with many, many problems in my life time. But I will have to admit that this threat of SARS is a problem of which I have never encountered before. I feel helpless. MuSi speaks very little english. This creates a problem of communicating with her about this illness. She tells me that SARS is now in NanNing and is spreading quickly. You can see the dilemma that we are all in who have spent so much of our time and money to get our loved ones here with us in America. I believe our packet 4 will be in June or July. I hope we don't have to deal with this at that time. The process of Fiance Visa is long and demanding enough and now we have to deal with this threat contracting this horrible illness. I will not give up. My love for MuSi is deep and sincere. I will take any risks necessary to have her here with me in America. I wish all of you good luck. Don & MuSi
  11. Hi, I am leaving for Guangzhou this Sunday. I have weighed all of my options and have decided that my love for MuSi is most important to me. Of course, I intend to follow all precautions and wear the masks, I am bringing alcohol wipes (I read that alcohol kills the virus) to wipe down the hotel room and of course surgical gloves. I will also quarantine myself for 7-10 days in my home when I return, so as not to infect others incase I come down sick. I feel that is all I can do to prevent the spread of this virus. I feel that had the Guangzhou Embassy efficiency had been better I would not have been caught up in this timeline and need to run this risk. Don
  12. We're still waiting. Add Don&MuSi to your list.
  13. First of all, I want to thank everyone for the responses you have given me to my problem. After reviewing them, I took your advice and phoned my fiance. Because the Embassy sent the papers since it was documented on the application that she did have a child, she assumed that I requested it. We had a very long talk and although she was willing to wait to bring her son to America, I felt that bringing him now was a better option. I love MuSi and want her to be happy and I think she would be happier if her son was with her. So, although our plans have been altered, I think that I have made the right choice and we will pursue two visas for MuSi and her son. Thanks again to everyone. It helped me to think more clearly and make what I think is the right choice. Don&MuSi
  14. To All Candle For Love Members, I really need some advice. I am going to go into detail, so you will understand my situation. I have been in a relationship with my current fiance for more than two years. We met online when she advertised herself as being available and wanting to meet. When she advertised herself, she represented herself as divorced and no children. On my first trip to meet with her in person, I did meet her son, but was told that he will be staying with the father and this is why she listed herself as having no children. This was fine with me because I had no intentions of raising another family, since I've raised two already. I have since been back to China another 4 times. We have written 100's of email letters and nearly daily phone calls since we met. Never once did she mention her son. I recently posted that she received packet 3, which we are very happy about, but this morning she tells me that an application for her son to come with her was in packet 3. She is very happy that her son is coming to America and has spoken to her ex-husband already and he has given his approval. How can this happen?? On the fiance visa application, it says to list all children whether they are coming or not. We did not put in an application for him. Can someone tell me if the Embassy automatically puts this in with packet 3 if there are children involved? As I said, I did not petition to bring the son, only my fiance. Please understand, I do like children, but at this time in my life, I don't want to raise any more. Other questions I have: Does this mean that we need to file a new application?? Does this force us to start over again, because now she wants to bring her son?? I am trying hard to understand all of this. If anyone can shed some light, I would appreciate it. Thanks Don
  15. I had to laugh when I saw this post because my fiance calls me Buddha. I'm not fat either, just stocky. Don&MuSi
