  1. Just because Canada dumped their K-1 doesn't mean America should also IMHO. I filed K-1 for one specific reason, to allow LiWen the opportunity to see first hand what she was getting into. If there would have been another option say like being able to get a tourist visa this century for her I would have done that.

  2. HKG, I'm not looking to "level" the playing field. The only thing I would hope to accomplish is to hold GUZ[DOS, whatever government entity] to the standards in the books. Their rules and regulations, nothing more nothing less. I don't have an axe to grind. In hind sight I will say if I were a VO I would have had doubts also. But that is not because I didn't read the government info. It's because I didn't research[google] and find CFL until after my NOID. If you go purely by the regulations you run the risk of not reaching an unwritten standard.

  3. But that is exactly why it would work, rogerinca. In the cases the VO oversteps the boundaries and mandates of the job, then let them have a additional hearing/review at the consulate with applicant, petitioner and VO with a supervisor. I'm only talking of denials. The video need never leave the consulate. Unless it was leaked from there how could it be used to circumvent the system? Maybe I'm overly sensitive about the issue. After being told I was either looking for a payday or my SO was scamming me for the green card, neither of which IMHO was acceptable, well sorry.

  4. One other thing to add to ShaQuaNews' post. My feeling was no matter how many pictures she saw or the fact that her aunt was here and lives a few blocks away[i was vetted, you betcha] that I wanted LiWen to have the 90 days of the K-1 to make up her mind. As far as the lawyer thing goes you will get as many opinions on that as there are ways to file. I went the K-1 no lawyer route. The only thing I would do different is find CFL earlier to "frontload" the issues for the delay. If you are organized and everything is basic, save your money. If you can see problems or just feel better with a pro working for you, lawyer up. And if you do lawyer up, get one that knows specifics.

  5. From the tiny research I've done, the department of state is an independent arm of the government. That is why they have the G-classes. They are above partisan politics. Theoretically. The new government in DC only sets the policy. Be hard, take it easy. However the current occupant chooses to stress specific things is where the difficulty comes into it.

  6. Hong, It is good to see you posting. Typing and posting will help you with reading and writing. Speaking is different as you know. Tomboys are good. This next part is between you and I. Do not tell anyone about this. Only listen to me. The other people here will give you bad advice. Your husband is OK to listen to, but everyone else... The first lesson is ask husband about sarcasm. The second is never to listen to me.

  7. Bill & Li Hong, Do me a major favor. If you go PLEASE take some magazines to the consulate. ACH stinks with no current reading materials  If you go with your SO to the interview you will be not be able to stay in line with her. Once the security forms the mob into lines outside they cut you out, go elsewhere for coffee. It depends on which group your SO is in when she gets in.
