Congratulations! I just got back from GZ, where we passed too on Dec.13th! Our interview was in Chinese too, since my SO could speak very little English. The VO only asked to see our passports, then he asked when we first met, and finally where am I residing currently (US or China). He spent most of the time looking over my I-864 documents and did not ask to see any photos. The interview lasted about 5 minutes, with the VO mostly stamping and labeling documents and looking at the computer. We spent months and months preparing paperwork for the interview, none of which was actually viewed by the VO besides the I-864 stuff. But who cares, we passed! A big thank you to David and Pushbrk and all of the CFLers' who have been so helpful to us in our ordeal!

oops sorry one more question before I forget, David, if I do use my mother as backup, does she just fill out I-864A since we live in the same household? So that means for Part 1 of the I-864, I'm just checking the box by " I am the petitioner. I filed or am filing for the immigration of my relative" ? All the other boxes (d and e) are for joint sponsors, which I am not right? (ok so 3 questions)

My poor SO is gonna go to the Chinese school and have them write an employment verification letter for me next week, and I'll also have the contract, so at least I've got 2 things to prove the chinese income. Yeah we're just gonna go with what the truth is, and of course have my mom be a backup just in case...

Ok I'm not really sure at this point, but the instructions for Part 6 of I-864 does define Current Individual Annual Income as " your expected income for the current year", and since I can't claim " my current monthly income at new job x 12 months" for 2006 tax return, I am gonna go with this sum- " my current monthly income at new job x 3 months + income from China" (which will be the sum I'll claim on my 2006 tax return) as my Current Individual Annual Income. And I think I'm probably gonna have to list my assets on I-864, to put to rest any issues VO might have with how I could pay for airfare and travel expenses and such. Thanks guys for replying to my incessive list of questions, but I still got a problem with the income I made in China, if I include it into my Current Annual Income (CAI), that'll help to put me over the income requirement by a pretty slight margin. However, I have absolutely no evidence of my Chinese income, no payroll records, no employer's letter, just a contract signed with the school. So I don't know, maybe I shouldn't include it due to this lack of evidence? Oh and I was reading some prior posts about I-864, and there was a point made about how even if you meet the income requirement by a slight margin, it still counts, and you CAN NOT/NOT ALLOWED TO use joint sponsors or your own assets to supplement your income on the I-864. I was just reading the I-864 instructions, and it said " if this amount is greater than 125% of the federal poverty guidelines for your household size, you DO NOT NEED to include any household member's income..." (pg.7) and " if your Total Household Income is equal to or more than needed to meet the income requirement as shown by the current Poverty Guideline for your household size, you DO NOT NEED to completel this part (Part 7. Use of Assets to Supplement Income" (pg.8). " Not required" means I still could use them?

The Current Individual Annual Income asked for on I-864 and I-864EZ, does this mean my income before taxes or after taxes? On the employer letter used as evidence for this income, it shows my annual salary before taxes. Thank you in advance

I have a somewhat similar predicament with the poster, and getting really confused about whether or not I should file I-864EZ or joint I-864's. My 2005 Tax Return shows my income as only $6000 above poverty guideline, cuz my contract ended in July, I don't know if that'll be enough to convince the VO I'm financially sound. Then for 2006, first 6 months I spent in China working on a chinese salary, then came back, got started at a new job with salary way above 125% poverty guideline. Problem is I started in September and am only getting paid for the last 3 months of 2006. On I-864EZ, #18, where it says " my individual annual income is currnetly:___" I don't know if I should write down the income I'm getting with my new job, or my expected income for 2006 (which then wouldn't meet the 125% guideline). And so that means I'd have to find a joint sponsor (another complicated ordeal). Also, I've taken a look at the list of documents required for overcome on the blue slips, is it recommended for SO to lug everything on this list to the interview, so that if VO tries to give blue slip, SO can pull out the stuff he's asking for? Quite a few SOs on 001 have been blue-slipped recently, and I'm starting to think GUZ is trying to fill its blue slip quota.

Hi I have read through tons of posts about how to fill out the GIV-24, but none has answered my question which is- for #6, where it says "country", does that mean the " country of birth" or " country of nationality"? Thanks to anyone who could clear up this confusing issue!

WaitingP4, we're in the same boat as you, DOS also told me P4 was sent out on 23rd, but we haven't seen anything. I think if we don't see anything next week I'm gonna have to bug GUZ again.

I called this morning too and was awarded with December 13th as our interview date. But am slightly pissed as we filed in May and they made us wait 7 months instead of the usual 6.

Haha, add me to that list. I think they must know me by now up at the DOS office. They keep telling me different things about my case, like today, the gentleman told me the case is being processed and at the same time, is waiting for an interview date to be scheduled. WTF?

For our DCF, I contacted BJ (where we filed) 2.5 months after filing and they told me the petition was approved 2 months after filing date. However I didn't receive the actual P2 until much later, after I had requested them to fax it to me cuz I thought it might have been lost in the mail. I think it might be a good idea to contact GZ again after a week or 2. It does seem like recent DCFer's are seeing longer waits in the process (from usa.bbs.net), I don't know why though... Hi, does anyone have an idea of how long it take for GUZ to schedule an interview date from the time they've cleared and approved the name checks? Right now we're documentarily qualified but just wondering how long we'd have to wait before we get an appointment date. Thanks in advance!

Hey Harvestgal, if it's been more than 2 months, I think you could call the BJ homeland security office again and check to see whether or not your case got the initial approval. We called the homeland security office 2 months after we filed for DCF, and someone over the phone confirmed our initial approval. As for the address situation, yeah it's better to contact them ASAP and confirm whether or not they made the change, so as not to have any potential delays to your case. Congratulations on the baby!

Paula you should contact GUZ asap. I just got a reply to my email from GUZ telling me that our name check clearance is (finally!) done, and the case is now under processing for an interview scheduling. Good luck!

yeah I'm with you on the same page, DOS keeps telling me the name checks are done, that I need to contact GUZ. and when I do contact GUZ, they tell me it's " under processing for name check clearance" (their exact words). I'm gonna assume it'll take a while before they get us an interview date.

Hi, I'm wondering if anyone knows what goes on after you turn in the I-864 form during the interview, especially if your SO passed the interview? Do they do more background checks on the financial sponsor, to make sure all the info on the I-864 are legit? What if the financial sponsor (moi) quits their job around that time? Would that affect whether or not SO gets the green card? ANY input would be greatly appreciated!

I filed DCF with my spouse, and we only had to submit a copy of the Z-residence permit (sticker in your passport). They did not look at the little Foreign Experts Certificate book or employment contract. I hope this helps and good luck!

Hey agape, I think we have very similar timelines and situations (I'm DCF too) I just called the Visa Information Center # (the one you where you have to pay) about 2 hours ago, and an operator gave me the following info about my case status: 1) case status is still at Name Check. 2) I informed her of my recent phone call to DOS (09/11/06) and what DOS told me regarding our Name Check Completion¡­paperwork sent to GUZ¡­waiting for interview date. 3) She said this is a Name Check performed by GUZ and is different from the one DOS is talking about. Her words: ¡°There are 2 aspects to the Name Check process, one which takes place in the U.S. and the other one that takes place in China...which is what¡¯s done to our case right now.¡± 4) I asked her about how long this 2nd Name Check would take, she could not give me an answer, but just said after this 2nd Name Check is done, then our case would be lined up in the queue for interview dates, after which when interview dates are determined, then P4 is sent out to us. I have been searching in the CFL archived posts for the 411 on this 2nd namecheck, but it seems like different people were being told different things regarding this 2nd namecheck. Maybe GUZ is also running the 2nd namecheck (in China) for your case, after the 1st one was finished in Washington DC? Anyone know anything about this? Thanks!

Yeah, I agree with Randy, when I called DOS yesterday, the agent said in some cases, it's very possible for GUZ to request another namecheck even after the 1st one was done and all the paperwork sent back to GUZ...
