I see some news about Hong Kong saying it would close its borders with mainland China though. 162802[/snapback] This is a very real threat as I have done a lot of study related to the possibility of this turning in to a Pandemic. It is a H5N1 virus that has infected migratory birds and domestic fowl. The most serious outbreaks have been in Viet Nam and Indonesia where there was some actual transmission from human to human. The virus spread into Southern Russia and into the Balkans. They are now finding small amounts in England and low level amounts in Canada amongst Migratory Birds. The more it spreads the better chance that it may pick up the sequence that will start human to human transmission. There have been some major outbreaks in Northern China which the Chinese Government has supposedly quarrantined and erradicated. It is hard to say how forthcoming the Chinese Government reports are as any kind of major outbreak in China would destroy the economy. If it starts gpoing human to human the US Government would never let us back in the country in any case. I am in Nanning with my wife and worry aboout this happening at anytime. That is why I am so worried about my extra long time line. They have a flu drug called Tamiflu which may help some in the initial start of the virus but the mutation sequence of Avian Flu will eventually mutate and make this drug ineffective. The only company that I have heard that may hold the key to producing a effective deterrant is a small pharmaceutical in Corvallis Oregon that has Genetic sequenced Oglio Moropholino that blocks the virus from mutation. This is not a Vaccine but a compound. The companies name is Avia Bio Pharma. It is cutting edge technology and the government has just starting helping fund their research. They need to have it put on fast track for the sake of humanity. This virus could kill hundreds of millions. Thanks for the support everyone. I am sort of semi-retired and able to stay in Nanning for extended periods of time. We have actually managed to act as export agent on a small basis which is creative and passes the time. Going to the Asean Expo in Nanning tommorrow. There is so much opportunity in this country. I am missing football and basketball season which is hard. Was hoping to make my wife a Oregon Duck fan but the bureaucrats have delayed that. You start to wonder if GUZ is ever going to find your name.

I have entered into the 14th month and not even a clue about progress after GUZ entry early July. Will go Senator, Congressman route soon. I am a CR1 and also have 129 filed. I am leaving for Nanning and going to try and call them next week with the Pin charge and see if I can learn something. We are about the same length of time on the namecheck.

I am now approaching 390 days and still in Name Check. Started Name Check early July. Lady at DOS said that this is overdue and I should ask GUZ to follow up as DOS is helpless in this case. Any other suggestions. My wife changed her first name in 2000 and her last name is very common. Could this be the problem? Any other suggestions.

Does anyone have a working DOS number. I have 202 663 1255 but it is no longer in service.

I started my 130 process on 9/22/04 and 129 11/04/04 and cleared NVC on May 10th. Guangzhou entered in computer on 7/8/05. I think name check was cleared about two weeks ago. My Bi monthly e-mails were replied with Name Check in progress. Last e-mail reply stated pre interview process in progress. Everyone has seemed to have passed me by and petitioners in early 05 are having interviews. I have noted one or two people on the board also near my time frame. Any guesses why we have been treading water while others blow through.

I know New Hampshire shipped on 05/04/05 and I was finally entered into Name Check early July. I don't know if the I 130 has taken over or this is the 129. Should have kept a better timeline.

I recieved this reply from a email pertaining to our case status. We are conducting pre-interview clearance for your wifes case. Once they have been completed we will send her appointment date. Due to the heavy workload volume it is hard to predict when her interview will be scheduled . As soon as we have dates available she will hear from us. Is this a canned response? Does this mean we have cleared Name Check? Any educated guesses on time length until interview? I am sure others have received this type of response.

Ours was sent 27 May 2005 and we haven't gotten an interview yet (P4). I call DOS everyday. They say it is 6 months from sent to interview (on average). Jamison, As of September 23rd I will be one year into the process with my 130 and and 10 months with the 129. We have been locked into Name Check Security since early July. I have spent about half that time with my wife in Nanning. I am going back in October and try to wait it out. I am probably older than most involved and feel the time clock ticking and the enjoyment of my wife is valuable. I have been creative and working as a Import Export agent while in China. I had never done this before. Doing something constructive during the wait in China makes the time frame more tenable. My wife changed her first name in 2000 which may be the reason the name check is slow. I am thinking February or March for interview. It is not right and I send my monthly emails to Guangzhou, but it doesn't seem to change anything. Government buracracy is like a robot and has no feelings one way or the other. I have pleaded age, four year military veteran etc. etc. and it means nothing. Good Luck on speeding up the process, but you are probably beating your head against the wall.

I have had no problem obtaining a double entry 90 day Visa. I am not sure a single 120 is issued. You can re-apply quickly for the double ninety. I would pay a little extra and go through a Visa Agent. It should only take a few days. The key to the ninety is that you are married to a Chinese national.

It took me almost two months before it finally hit the computer in Guangzhou. Now I am two months into a name check. Some people seem to sail right through while others plod along. I submitted a 130 Sept 13th and 129 Nov 14th 2004 and nothing. I guess you just have patience.

Doug, I am running the same path as you as I entered the I 130 on 9/23/04. It took two months before entry at Guangzhou after New Hampshire. Presently dead in the water with a name check situation which started early July. I do not have good feelings about this. I am semi retired so can visit my wife in Nanning for extended periods which helps. I plan on another 90 day visa to return in November. Hopefully the interview will come sometime within that time period. If anyone has suggestions besides emailing Guangzhou about the progress I am listening. Hope things work out soon for you Doug. I have traveled your road only worse. Hired attorney started process Sept 23rd and finally got Guangzhou number May 18th but not acknowledged by Guangzhou until July and now still in name check. I am about 340 days and counting. Attorney says to be patient. Ha!

I have transferred money into a Bank of China Savings account. The wire takes about two days and a 50 US dollar charge or more.
