  1. Wrong again. Is this a habit for you? Sales tax is built into prices from the moment of manufacture. Only a moron would not recover the tax he paid when purchasing the products he sells from his supplier. Whatever negative aspects people would like to imply about Chinese merchants, they are not stupid. You are thinking of the receipt merchants give customers make a purchase. This is called a "fapiao" and is in no way an indication of whether or not someone pays sales tax. The money you save -- if any -- when not obtaining a fapiao is directly related to the money the merchant saves on income tax and the approximately 5% additional levy for the fapiao fee levied by the tax bureau. Bill - he's gone - hit the road - unregistered
  2. Just as a heads-up, the K-3 AOS would also give you a 10 year card. The determining factor is 2 years of marriage, either way.
  3. Dan, has VJ ever reported a case where someone actually got married in their home country AFTER the visa was awarded, but before they actually used it? If so, what were the consequences? Did they run into trouble at AOS time?
  4. You have 999 posts to go before you can get your visa - better get busy
  5. It's cheaper than AOS (if you're going to take a trip there anyway) and almost paid for. Doesn't one have to have a green card to be readmitted to the US after travel abroad? What is the CR1 interview fails? K-3 is still valid

  7. Any textbook (almost any) learning method would have both the Chinese characters and English text. Check with the Rosetta folks to se ifthey offer a textbook, or buy one at Amazon or anywhere else.
  8. I think the key here is where the interview would take place. If her status is such that she would have to interview in China, that would take the typical 9 months to a year. If she marries in Canada, however, the K-3 interview would take place in Canada. It's worth looking into. Several of our members had married in Hong Kong, and experienced a MUCH shorter wait because the interview was at that embassy - the consulate at Guangzhou is not involved at all. That visa company may just know what they're talking about
  9. What, homework assignments ??!? B)
  10. To discuss case specifics they need a verified email address. That is an real nightmare they are putting you through. They show no understanding whatsoever of the difficulties they can cause.
  11. Uh, Jesse, tell party members that Socialism doesn't work for the PRC. And tell that to the elderly receiving SS and Medicare benefits to get by and stay alive in this country. Don't forget to tell the IRS. They take MUCH more from the rich than they do the poor, even on a percentage basis, no matter WHO is in office. Hand waving and generalities just really don't convince a whole lot of people of anything
  12. Roger, I know you have a burden for the poor of the world, and it seems that you think they are victims. There are indeed poor in every country in the world. So, what is the solution? Would you suggest that the government create programs for them so that they can have money, food, and an education? If so, where does that money come from? Taxes perhaps? Well since you are now paying taxes in America and China you must be more than willing to do your part and I'm sure the poor thank you very much... Socialism just doesn't work Roger. Spreading the wealth around by taking from the rich and giving to the poor sounds like a nice thing to do, but in the end, it destroys the very thing a nation tries to do; things like creating jobs, and growth. Remove the incentive for business by raising taxes, and you lose jobs. When you lose jobs, people suffer. What Dave and Roger said. It is nice of you to spread your wealth around to so many countries, but they may not appreciate it the way you expect.
  13. Just be sure to check your "Spam" folder
  14. You got some samplings on VJ of experiences with fiance's in Europe and South America - we cover, for the most part, only China here. You seem to know what you'd like the answer to be - that's a good start . . .
  15. You sound like you don't need a whole lot of input from this board. Go for it!
  16. Sometimes they lose things and ask for them again. Don't lose any sleep over something you get so easily.
  17. A simple process here - settle down, send them what they ask for within 87 days, and go to the appts on the date specified, unless you'd rather re-schedule. The biometrics are contracted out to a non-government agency For the tax documents, if you can't figure out which were not included, you may want to send them for both you and your co-sponsor.
  18. My wife interviewed on Nov 22 (a Wednesday before Thanksgiving), and picked up her visa on either Friday, or Saturday. The Chinese post office (where she will pick up her visa) does not close for Thanksgiving.
  19. Many of them ARE available, in Oriental markets, but not as fresh. I don't quite have the same urge to eat lychees here as I do there. Isn't that the fuzzy fruit that you break open and there are like three whitish colored fruit pieces inside, very sweet? Yes - I think there are different varieties of it - that sounds like the multi-colored one - there's another kind that looks more like a lumpy, hard-shell grape. the ones you buy here seem to have an extra, added flavor to them

  21. It's your call - either works just fine. But be aware that 2008 stimulus checks were denied to people who filed returns with even one ITIN.
  22. I misunderstood the FRR - I thought it was a Chinese requirement. No, once a family visa application is filed for a Chinese citizen, it pretty well precludes any possibility of another temporary visa.
