  1. Wonderful news, Congratulations. Many thanks for the info.
  2. In relationships with American women it has always seemed to be about completion, who¡¯s right, who¡¯s fault, who¡¯s in charge, who hurt whom first. No winners in a battle to break the other¡¯s will. As far as I can tell with Chinese women it seems to be about relationship and caring, if she feels hurt or offended something is said and she normally follows it with ¡°don¡¯t do it again¡± and it¡¯s over. I can¡¯t say that I have felt anything but love from her even when she has scolded me. The only competition I have found is who can bring happiness and joy to the other and in this competition everyone seems to win.
  3. I'd vote for Kansas City, something about not having to travel appeals to me. Would have to check with my SO about having a contest or raffle for the use of the guest room.
  4. Go to the source: http://www.pimsleur.info/#English%20for%20...se%20(Mandarin) Thank you Sir. For a GREAT PRICE on these you can get them in Richardson, http://www.cheappimsleur.com/home
  5. Thought it might be the most important part of my tag line. BTW was there a topic? Oh, the CD's will hit the postal system by noon. Thanks for everyones input.
  6. I know what you mean, but I would hope they are looking for more than being able to speak English fluently. Min is able to communicate quiet well. In a complex conversation it is a combination of written, translator and spoken language. My hope is they look at her effort to communicate clearly. Now for a student visa English is more of a requirement.
  7. where do you rate her english ? Did she speak it at all at your first meeting? In November she had very limited vocabulary, much better than my Chinese. On my second trip she insisted we try to speak only in English, we were able to communicate about many things with a little effort. One day when we were with her friends she gave them lessons on pronunciation. The greatest fun was explaining the difference between smell and smile. Her grasp of the written language is amazing and often on the phone we will spell a word and then pronounce it. But at times I regress and tell her that I smell alot, it always gets a laugh and then she corrects me. Over all she is doing great, I have concerns about the interview based on some of the VO's, but plan to have a few cover letters in her hand.
  8. Thanks for all the help, I'll get them sent tomorrow. Bubbafred, I agree with you about the phone calls. She has been so self-conscious about her English it has taken a long while to get where we talk almost every day. She has told me it is difficult not being able to speak English with others and I am hoping these will give her more confidence in her pronunciation. I know their CD¡¯s have been helping me to learn Chinese. Thanks again.
  9. I want to send my SO a set of the Pimsleur CDs to help her with English, but I don¡¯t seem to be able to understand what is allowed through Chinese customs using Global Express Mail, UPS, DHL or FedEx or even how it would be best to declare the contents. Any helpful hints would be appreciated.
  10. If they are not in country I would opt for copies, a lost or stolen copy doesn't really hurt too bad. Lee
  11. Yep, only lost a month, time to count blessings and make another call to China.
  12. Appears it was not too bad an idea to have the congressman look into this. GZ pulled the DS-230 and found they missed the info on the first pass and have put us back in the pile of those waiting for P4. They still haven't seen the fax.
  13. I'm helping a friend compile information for filing and we came upon an interesting question. His SO moved to her current address in 2002, but this address was not her registered address until 2004. When he is filling out the 325a and DS230 which time frame should he use, the real dates or the registered date for the address. My gut tells me the registered dates are the ones he should use as any record check would probably show them. Any thoughts or suggestions? Thanks
  14. They stated that until they received the DS-230 or a letter/fax from me to clarify the issue they would not continue processing the application. The issue is the response or meaningless response from GZ as to receiving a fax they requested. Your point about N/A and NONE is well taken, wish consistency existed in these forms. Reading the question None is a valid answer, but I could have just as easily put N/A in that spot. I can understand they get a considerable amount of fax's but after a few weeks it should be able to be acknowledged that it arrived instead of saying when they received/process my fax they will remove her child from the application. Just got another "when they receive/process" response today. Guess you could say I'm just getting cranky and need to head back to China for a while.
  15. When GZ screwed up entering the P3 into the computer and a few weeks of tag with them stating that when the receive/process my fax they would release the hold I decided we had little to loose and might as well get the ball rolling now instead of later.
  16. Guess things are getting pretty bad, my congressman's office sent a request for the status on Tuesday and has not received a response from GZ. When we talked on Friday they were rather upset that GZ had not responded in a timely manner. I suggested they might make a call to Maura Harty to see if she could explain why they were getting a response slower than I normally get from their web site. Who knows, maybe the someone will build a fire.
  17. And I thought I was one of the few who traveled so far north. My SO lives in FuShun and shops for her business in ShenYang 2-3 times a week. You must feel fortunate you live where the winter is so mild. Good Luck Lee
  18. Gene and all, My appoligies, I just re-read the I131 for a 10th time and it finally sunk in.
  19. For the K-1 visa the first AOS is for a conditional green card and re-entry to the US can be refused without Advanced Parole. At 1yr 9mo from the date on the conditional card you apply to have conditional status removed and Advanced Parole is no longer needed once the conditional status is removed. One of the joys of the K-1 visa.
  20. Wouldn't argue that at all, but the signature sure gives the impression of a K1 visa...
  21. You must remember that the initial green card is conditional and Advance Parole is required to re-enter the US prior to the conditional status being removed, approx. 2 years from the date on the conditional green card. Are you positive you would not be returning to China before then?
  22. Most of this is straight forward, 1. Police Certificate - only hers, get translated by Notary 2. Divorce Papers - Only hers, get translated by Notary 3. Fee with I-129F was only for petition, this cost is for visa, interview and medical exam, about $100 each. 4. Telegraphic code available at post office, not required but recommended. 5. Majority about her, your contact info and address. Need 10 years history of employment, residence and all schools. Parents Info, Ex's info, children info. 6. Interview fee is part of #3 they give list of banks to get payment voucher. 7. I-134 can be sent with her or direct to consulate, must be current tax year. 8. Take copies of I-134, Tax forms, W-2's etc, have US Notary notarize the tax form near signature and also on I-134. They are trying to avoid fraudulent documents. Only in China 9. Not sure about notarizing Bank documents, it only specifies tax returns. 10. Tax forms, savings, show equity in home. Do the best you can. Possibly they would use an Income averaging, hard to tell. 11. K1 uses I-134, the I-864 is for AOS after wedding. 12. OF-167 was included in the packet and asks for Telegraphic code, mailing address and name. Not much to it. Make sure you get photocopies made of all the Notarized documents, they will want to see originals at the interview to verify the copies. You will want a set of originals in the US, the pages have serial numbers so do not mix copies. We had an extra set of documents prepared that I brought back the the US in case the consulate decided they wanted the originals. Also not a bad idea to have a copy of every paper sent to them that you can give them in the event they lost something. Good Luck
