  1. I am feverishly working to get the basics completed, so I can get Ying's signature where required and submit when I return in January. A few maybe dumb questions. I will have several "see attached supplement" items on both 129 and both of our 325's. Is it acceptable to have one supplement sheet for 129 with several items on it and one supplement sheet for each 325 with several items on it ? Or does every question require it's own supplement sheet? Ying started and operated a resturant. Any sage advice on how to report/describe that on the 325 form ? Last ? On the 325 - "former husband or wives - date & place of marriage" what are they looking for ? City and state, just state ? There is little space to provide answer. The form is more generous on space for the termination Maybe just another item to add to the supplement list Thnaks
  2. A distrubing thought for those honest and true. Let's hope they are not measuring improvement by number of blue slips issued.
  3. Congratulations !!! I was a Buckeye for 10 years. It has been a long since I have been to wedding also !!!
  4. Tony and Quan Very good news and best wishes for future !!! I hope your good luck rubs off on me. Ed
  5. I agree with Gene. The rule is the until someone, somewhere decides the rule is different. Too bad, there is no communication of the new "rule" ! You just find out the hard way!! Ed
  6. Look at this item on embassy website. It shows the basics, would not seem to be impossible Parents Visa
  7. I would tend to agree with amberzhu about too much oil and sauces. I think Korean diet is more healthy. I always lose weight on trip to Korea, gain weight on trip to China. Chinese do love the fruit ! I am not a dessert person - but fruit at end of meal is really great idea
  8. Congratulations - Jade did very well !!!! Seems interview was a bit tough - passport question - when they had it ? I never thought about favorite song !!!!! Ed
  9. Happy Thanksgiving to all Great idea about candle, I am going to light one for Ying. I feel blessed that I have chance to spend most of December with her
  10. I have been thru Narita a few time for flight changes - no issues, but it seems to always be be changing. Stayed the once on business. As oregenknl mentioned Japan is very expensive. I don't think I will go there as tourist - cannot afford it.
  11. I cannot disagree that our civil servants are at mercy of our government policies and politics. There appears to be elements of prejudice and ignorance. It seems crazy that in a country as large and populous as China that all immmigrant visas would go through GZ. Everybody in Illinois, - write newly elected Senator Barack Obama, he might have a sensitive ear. ( His father was from Kenya, his mother from Kansas - google his name , he has a interesting life history) Heck - write him if you do not live in Illinois
  12. Congratulations !!! The flying weather into ORD looks good for 25th Best of luck for the future
  13. I have been waiting so long to start process, I fully expect it will be a year or so. Hopefully I have soaked up enough knowledge during the wait , that I will be well prepared and not make any silly mistakes. It has certainly raised my confidence. I think I know what to do, what to expect - in general handle the process
  14. Welcome This is a great site for help, support and some fun - while we wait
  15. I think as long as the names are correct, the order will not matter. The confusion with name order is common. I fly many times in China, using various versions of my name with no problem.
  16. Yes the all go through GZ. A coworker just completed the process, it does take awhile. I have had a few return flights from China with several new parents and their bundle of joy.
  17. Steve Orphans are not limited to China. There is no reason for Yan Zi to be ashamed. Tell to her to take joy that someone is helping a child.
  18. I not worry too much in the big cities and freeways. Unfortunately I also get to travel the 2 lanes outside the cities. It is pretty wild. Just hope for a lucky day.
  19. About horns - my favorite is you can drive in China with out steering wheel if you have a horn ! I am not sure if license is the issue. No doubt there is a flood of drivers with no exprience or skill. But , I have never seen any effective enforcement of any traffic law in China. Just last month in BJ a policeman stopped short, my coworkers in van stopped short, just missing the police car, but the guy behind them hit the van. The policeman got out of his car looked around and drove off. I have seen a few bodies, from encounters of cars with bike/trikes. Numerous instances of taxi or driver "brush" someone. I tell everyone the most dangerous thing in China is trying to cross a street Ed
  20. Rick and Guohua Keep your spirit and faith high ! Don't let the system get best of you !!! Ed
  21. IMO and experience, any tickets you purchase here will be full fare or almost full fare. Picking them up in GZ adds another dimension. You could expect signficant reduction in fares if your SO could purchase tickets from a local agent, while asking for a discount. The mode of air travel in China, even for some international destinations is to not book too far ahead and ask for discount. It does add some flexibilty to the plan. It is not easy to judge flight load and avalibility of discount on Chinese air line. But most likely if flight is booked in China, it will be significantly cheaper. If specific flights/times are most important - then book ahead, with specific reference to having the ticket available in GZ. Make sure of what time the counter is open, etc. I used flychina.com once to prebook a flight during golden week, but ticket was sent to me in US. Google CS to see if they have US office. Given the situation, knowing you do not want any problems, it may be best to deal with CS directly. If possible, the home run option is SO buys tickets in China, informs you of date/time and you can meet her. I have never been comfortable with the buy/change ticket at A, pick up at B, unless I have the originating ticket in my possesion - I fly a lot - have seen other people's problems. Once I had to buy a new ticket, luckily I had enough RMB on hand, later it was eventually sorted out. Not to scare you, but crap happens. IMO, have SO buy ticket locally if that works for your situation.
