The "stupid" word

I was quite shocked the first time my SO called me "stupid" and wondered if she was rude, or had some bad personality problem. Since then I have read several posts which indicated that many other Chinese wives might call their husbands "stupid". I was wondering how common this was. I thought it might be due to lack of a large vocabulary, but now I am wondering if there is a cultural nature to this.

I doubt she intended the usage of the word to be taken as an insult. She was probably using 'stupid' in a lighthearted way, more synonomous in tone with 'silly'. My wife and I have often had to talk out the intended 'tone' of our words because one of us interpreted them as being more severe.

Hmmm, I thought she called me stupid because of her insight and ability to see it like it is. Maybe it's cultural??? Maybe i'm not really stupid??? Maybe pigs fly?? Actually she does say that at times but only in jest or when I do somehting realy really dumb--no more than 8-10 time per day.

Ying has never called me stupid, but she sometimes calls my UGLY, but I know she means it all in fun. If you are secure in your relationship don't give it much of any thought.

My wife has not called me stupid---Yet!!!!!!!

 

But she calles me BAD Man.... This is do to me sneaking up behind her and scareing the heck out of her at times..

After she is through screaming--she says Bad Man!!!!!

I get called "Ben dan" among other things everyday and I return it equally it is all in fun so don't sweat it, the first time or so I was also but it is meant in love.

Maybe like Trigg, I have been called stupid a few times, well because I was I was the one that told part of having a strong realtionship was to be honest with each other
