What does EAD mean?

I know this is a dumb question, but what does EAD stand for? Everybody keeps throwing that acronym around, but nobody spells it out, not even in their signatures

 

And I checked out the List Of ACRONYMS (LOA) thread in the Information section ... it's not there!!

 

As one can guess, we are just about to embark upon the AOS process

while we're defining acronyms, can someone tell me what SO stands for? I also checked the list of acronyms and that wasn't on there either.

One of the great things about filing AOS here in Portland Jim is if you go down to the federal building and apply in person you can get her the EAD on the same day. I have been told recently that now you need to go on line and make an appointment. We had to go down and stand in line for hours. Basically you go down and submit your paperwork then come back at 2 pm and get the EAD.

I first learned of SO as an undergrad. The reason why people used it was to be sensitive to people of different sexual orientations. It means "significant other".
