Catherineli
Good morning everyone! We talked about how to file income tax from China in America. I didn't put it to heart at the time. Now it's my turn to do the same job. I have some income from China. How do I do to meet the American tax policy please? Thank you for taking the time to read my question. Have a good weekend! Randy W
Even if it is EARNED income (that is, you were paid for some service), you could not use the Form 2555, since you don't satisfy the Residence test (residence in China, that is). You are required to report it as income on your Form 1040. It would probably fit on Line 21 for Other Income. Assuming you don't have a W-2 form for the income, you CAN report the source of this income on the Form 4582, Substitute for Form W-2, Wage and Tax Statement but this is not required. TurboTax may not like it if you don't have a W-2, but you could always use a paid preparer (CPA). The forms this year are very different - so Form #'s and line #'s may have changed.
