Any Experience shipping cats?

Recommended Posts

We have two cats that are quite noisy so they cannot be brought into the cabin of the plane. For international pet flights, cats must be sent through approved shippers. So far, we have been quoted between $5000-$8000 USD to ship both of them. Does anyone have any experience with this? Any recommended shippers from Shanghai?

I don't remember hearing from anyone who shipped a cat, but it shouldn't be any different from shipping a dog.

Nor do I remember hearing from anyone who shipped a pet separate from their own flight. Fees for shipping a pet as checked baggage should be on the order of 1.5 times the excess baggage fee (that was what one airline quoted that I found through Google). Check with your airline if you are shipping as checked baggage.

United has a web page for pets, including cats

https://www.united.com/ual/en/us/fly/travel/animals/petsafe.html

I only remember one or two members here who shipped pets (but I couldn't find by searching). I have a Facebook friend who shipped a small dog from Nanning to (probably) Houston.

That's about all I can help with - hopefully, someone else can contribute.

Thanks Randy. We are in contact with a few shippers. We were told by ANA and Delta that we need to go through an approved shipper now. I think some laws have changed recently because a lot of the snub nosed animals (which we have) were dying in the cargo area. All of the prices we have been given are insane. So we will keep up the search.

Hello. I found one post about pets. Thru the search function on the main forum page, I searched for "pets" Hopefully this link will get you to that topic:

A member by the name of Chickadee was asking some questions about a year ago. Perhaps you can PM him. Maybe he was able to get some answer. There were other post but they were about 10 or more years old.

Just found another post from 2013. It is a bit dated but there seemed to be some useful info:

Again perhaps you PM the some of the posters. Good luck.

Thanks there, Dan! I think I only tried "sending (or transporting) pets" - two words.

A PM will send an email message to the member to alert them, so it may work even for an inactive member. But the "pug nose" issue IS fairly recent.

Wife brought her cat to the USA from China 10 years ago was only 350.00 USD the price you got was BS. If you have to fly there pick up the cats and fly back could be done for 1000-1500 max. Cats will need notes from Vet saying they are healthy.

Things have changed a little but - like he says,

Snub nosed animals (particular breeds, even if mixed) have breathing issues which are exacerbated in the cargo hold, and are forbidden by some airlines.
