Why has Chinese Internet Star Li Ziqi Stopped Uploading Videos?

After a long-standing dispute that lasted for 531 days, Li Ziqi and Weinian, the multi-channel network company that owns her image, have finally reached a settlement under the mediation of Mianyang Intermediate People's Court in southwest #China's Sichuan.

On December 27, Weinian announced that the two parties had come to an agreement. As a result, Li Ziqi will be making videos again soon, though it is unclear when exactly she will return, how her content will be presented, and if it will differ in any way from her previous work. Li Ziqi gained millions of followers by sharing videos of her peaceful life in rural Sichuan, in which she often did traditional farm work, cooked in Hanfu, and promoted Chinese culture.

The 1,500-Year-Old Art of Chinese Tie-Dye
In southwestern China, the Bai people have been tie-dying their clothes with woad for generations. We went to Dali, the ancestral home of the Bai people, to learn about their unique form of tie-dye and how to be groovy—the Bai way.

CORRECTION: The first line of the video was mistranslated. It should read, "This shade is blue like the ocean."

A Day in a Shanghai Park: See You Next Wednesday
Public parks are oases of calm in modern Shanghai. Open, healing, and free for all, they are where people retreat to after a hard day’s work, an argument, or a breakup. They provide the space to calm the body and mind, escape the bustle of the city, and be in the moment — even if it’s just for a few minutes.

After Shanghai emerged from a two-month lockdown last year, the city’s public parks were where people rushed back to, for fresh air, freedom, and human connection.

In this series, Sixth Tone captures the daily rhythm of life in three of Shanghai’s parks. The third episode captures a group of deaf people meeting up at a corner in Shanghai’s Luxun Park.

Square dancing, typically associated with older Chinese women, was just one of the ways students tried to kill time and have fun during extended campus lockdowns due to the pandemic. Other attempts, such as “crocodile crawling” in groups or making paper dogs and walking them on campuses, also went viral and created a sense of connection in a period of isolation.

This Guy Charmed 3 Million with This Ancient Chinese Horn
In many movies about China, you’ve probably heard a high-pitched, “deadly” sound at some point. These squawk-like sounds are made by the suona, a traditional Chinese instrument used at funerals and weddings in China. Most young folks think it's a representation of the old. But this musician shows that the once unhip instrument is actually pretty cool.

Silky hot milk tea for winter, anyone🥰?There are so many variations of milk tea around the world. In Hong Kong, people like the tea flavor to be extra strong while making sure it still goes down smooooth. Here’s how it is made at the oldest existing Cha Chaan Teng in town.
