chrisoffice
Hi, I am semi-retired, did not file any 1040 for the last 3 years, but I have more than 200K in my US bank account, can I simply use the bank statements to meet the I-134 requirement? Or do I have to find a co-sponsor? Thanks! Link to comment
Randy W
Having enough money in the bank to buy a Lamborghini is NOT an indication that your spouse will not become a public charge while in the U.S. The Visa Officer is required by law to look beyond the information in the I-134. Do you have a career or means of support once she arrives in the U.S.? It is YOUR responsibility to prove that she will be provided for without becoming a public charge. A co-sponsor can be demanded by the Visa Officer, at their sole discretion. Also, if you are reporting a taxable level of income, you will need to file tax returns, even if you pay no taxes after the Foreign Earned Income Exclusion. Social Security income counts as income, if you are receiving that. Edited April 14, 2017 by Randy W (see edit history) Link to comment
