To the east of Turpan City, the Flaming Mountains are red sandstone hills located near the northern rim of the Taklamakan Desert. It is a hot tourist attraction where some outdoor scenes in the famous Chinese TV series "Journey to the West" were shot. Ground temperature in the mountains reached as high as 65℃ on June 4. Note - 65°C would be 149°F. Google says - The current official highest registered air temperature on Earth is 56.7 °C (134.1 °F), recorded on 10 July 1913 at Furnace Creek Ranch, in Death Valley in the United States.
