Beneficiary change of address

Recommended Posts

I have PDF copies of the last 3 years taxes, I ordered IRS transcripts for the last 3 years but so far I have only found the last two years W-2 forms. Technically only the most recent year is required but I have always subscribed to the kitchen sink approach.

The select an agent form has been processed and I payed the affidavit of support fee. Once it's processed they will invoice us for the visa application fee.

I'm in the process of gathering up all the documents required and filling out the forms. I have a few questions about the I-864 EZ and the I-864a. The federal poverty guidelines for 2015 with a family of 3 is $20090.00. At 125% that's $25112.00. My wife qualifies for that on her own income but only by a few thousand dollars. I think it prudent to submit the I-864a as well.

Part 5 lines 6a, 6b and 6c ask for adjusted gross income. This is confusing me since we filed jointly. Since I have no adjusted gross income for her alone should I just put line 22 adjusted gross income for both of us from our 1040? On the I-864a line 2 It asks for my individual income. is this line 1 from my individual w-2?

Thanks in advance.

Earlier you said this was your first Electronic Filing. Do yourself a favor. Go to the website

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents.html

Look carefully at the tabs. http://travel.state.gov/etc/designs/visas/images/visa_immigrate_process_step.png

The Immigrant Visa Process

Be sure to click on each every one of the Tabs. Do it many, many times. Read them until your head spins. Repeat.

They (tabs) are all important. Interview Prep is even more important. They say something to the effect of "we suggest you contact the Medical Facility to arrange your Medical Exam.' Yes, exactly, I explained this in a different post. I would describe the Medical as 'onerous.' As I recall, 8 Passport Photos are collected during the medical. You won't find that anywhere in Interview Prep. At least, I did not.

Nothing, absolutely nothing is the same as when you did this last time.

For the Income questions. As I recall 'we' were not eligible to file an I -864A. Click on that tab I mention above- Collect Financial Documents. It goes here:

http://travel.state.gov/content/visas/english/immigrate/immigrant-process/documents/Step_4_Collect_Financial_Documents.html

You will see a 'What If' Table. Go the bottom-

If none of the above apply and:

  1. You do not meet the minimum income requirement and are using a joint sponsor, and
  2. You are not using the income of other household members to qualify.
  3. Then The sponsor and the joint sponsor must each complete Form I-864

As for the adjusted gross income versus individual income. When the Form asked for Individual Income I entered that person's sole income, not the adjusted gross income.

Where the form I 864A asked for "Item Number 2. Current Individual Annual Income. Enter your current individual earned or retirement annual income that you are using to meet the requirements of this contract and indicate the total on this line."

The number I entered (based on the statement '..that you are using to meet the requirements...' exceeded the Tax Form Total Income and Adjusted Gross income because I have non-taxable sources of income that were explained separately.

If your only income is from W-2 that's too easy, use it.

I think this is what's being said, but just to be clear, the sponsor (I believe that Carl's wife is the sponsor) would fill out an I-864, while the supporting household member would fill out an I-864A

I just filed the I-864 and I-864A, let's say it was April 2015. Takes a little time, but not so much. And, they only ask for 1 year's tax transcript, which I gave them.

About 10 days go by and then I get an e-mail stating "We are currently receiving an increased number of approved petitions from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. As a result, we are experiencing increased review times for documents received.

We expect it will be at least 60 days from the date we received your mail before we complete the review of your documents. We will notify you when we review your documents.

We are working to reduce these processing times and we appreciate your patience."

Then, a couple weeks later, I get another e-mail- 'we have processed your documents but we need (fill in the blank)".

What's the worst case? You decide to do the I-864ez (presumably to save time) and they decide it's not enough money. Begin the 90 day wait loop.

Or, you spend some time now, pull out what few hairs you have left and file the complete I864 and I864a. Which is worse?

Or, they accept the EZ form as is and your all done.

And, don't forget to click on all those tabs. If you don't, you won't see this for example- "How should I identify the scan files I create?

Each scan file must be named as it is created. Choose a file name that includes the following information:

  • Your NVC case number;
  • The full name of the applicant whose document you scanned; and
  • The document name or form number.

For example:

  • ABC2009123456_John_Doe_DS-3032.pdf
  • ABC2009123456_Jane_Doe_Birth_Certificate.pdf"

And there is the fine print- submit all documents in one submission. "...or your case may be delayed..."

good luck with whatever you decide.

I've gone through choosing an agent and paying the affidavit of support fee. I am still gathering documents and filling out forms but I can't proceed to the next step until I pay the immigrant visa fee. Every time I check the status it says "not invoiced"

Link to comment

Are you signing in here to check status? https://ceac.state.gov/CTRAC/Invoice/signon.aspx

Because they ask for this: Enter the Invoice Identification Number that was provided by the NVC.

I don't recall how long getting the invoice ID Number took. Our case stretched from 2011 to 2015 for non-governmental reasons. so timelines are a little vague.

The implication seems to be that the NVC has not yet sent you an Invoice number.

Yup, that's the place. It says "not invoiced"

Another question, on the I-864ez it asks for the mailing address. Since we plan to do all the filing electronically is there any reason we can't use our address instead of his?

Once my wife became agent for her parents we used my e-mail for all things electronic. Electronic e-mail communications from NVC, USCIS, Travel Docs and GUZ went to the agent, meaning us.

Initially, I used her e-mail for the in-laws but it turned out to not be relevant. I later used my e-mail address for everything and everyone.

However, I still used the in-laws physical address in China to fill in the address blanks for all official documents. It's where they live, afterall. And, I kept using the same, original, address even if they moved.

confusion on the invoice? you are signing in to the Invoice site, so you do have an Invoice Number with a message that says "not invoiced?" That seems truly governmentese.

try calling them.

Got it now. I mean our original invoice, dated June 2011. Therefore, time from Invoice to payment is definitely irrelevant since I waited 4 years to pay it.
