The Consular Section of the U.S. Consulate in Guangzhou located in Tianhe district, Guangzhou, is closed on Tuesday, 14 May. American Citizen Services passport, CRBA, and notary services are unavailable at this time. We regret the inconvenience and request that our clients check our website at http://guangzhou.usembassy-china.org.cn/index.html for updates on our operating status. [Photo: Agencies] The consular sections of the U.S. Consulate General in Guangzhou, south China's Guangdong Province, suspended all visa applications on Monday until further notice after a staff member discovered some suspicious powder inside the building, The Yangcheng Evening News reports. The white powder was discovered in an envelope in the consular section, which issues visas to the United States. According to the staff member who found the substance, the envelope was torn and the powder had spilled out. The consulate cleared the scene and collected the powder for examination. No results have been returned so far. The Chinese government has been notified, and no casualties have been reported. All applications for immigration visas to the United States nationwide as well as other U.S. services in some regions across China have been put on hold because of the situation.
