The Ganden Sumtseling Monastery (噶丹松贊林, also called Sumtseling Monastery) is a Tibetan Buddhist monastery located around 5 km (3.1 mi) from Shangri-La City at elevation 3,380 m (11,089 ft) in Yunnan province, China. The original monastery was built in 1679 but was destroyed during the Cultural Revolution by Mao's Red Guard. The one we see today was rebuilt in 1983. The monastery has been completely restored to the normal Buddha since 1985. The monastery is the largest Tibetan Buddhist monastery in Yunnan and is referred to as the Little Potala Palace (小布達拉宮).

We're so lucky to have someone actually living in China as an active member of the group. I think most of us who have just visited there have a more romantic notion of the country. Thank you Randy and please keep the pictures coming.
