The thing is, this child has interests in plants, bugs, sea creatures, and etc, and she studies about this stuff on her own, when she can get away with it. Personally I would get her a microscope and still may for her birthday, and let her learn about things she is interested in and has a talent for.

 

I will continue to avoid giving parenting advice. But, I think this is a great idea. Many people try to 'pigeonhole' their kids into being an MD, lawyer, or engineer (all good career paths) but entomologists have a huge opportunity for a great career too; it's an extremely important field.
