I am not here in China on any political agenda. I am not here in China on any religious agenda. I am here strictly to be with my wife. What we learn from the internet I keep to myself. The college foreign affairs fellow told me that they don't care what I look at as long as I keep the sensitive stuff to myself and don't use it in classes. Fair enough to me.Fact is, I have come to like it here and hope to stay longer. We primarily want the permanent resident status for my wife so she can come and go to the US anytime without all this hassle. Also so that she can apply for immigration for our daughter who really wants to be a US citizen. Link to comment

Basically, I did some personal research and found that while there are a number of blocked sites it did not appear to be as bad as the article suggested. I am always highly skeptical of censorship of the net, but just wanted to set the record straight. Link to comment

My research showed that a number of the specific sites listed as blocked would load after hitting reload. While I oppose censorship in general, there are things that should not be allowed. Child porn is definately one of those. 0600 is late? Here my wife considers it being tolerant that she lets me sleep in until 6. Many people are up at 0500 for their morning exercises. In many places in China there is an 0600 reveille followed by exercise music and announcements loudly broadcast over speakers in the parks. In some places, speaker strategically located so everyone can hear. One of my wife's earliest jobs was to harangue her village with the announcements every morning. Link to comment
