Visiting Fiances Family in May

Recommended Posts

hi

It seems likely I will be off to visit my fiance Fang and her mother in May. I spent this last Christmas in Gaungzhou with Fang, but did not make it out to Laohekou, Hubei to see her mum.

Fang was taken ill while I was there and she hasn't gotten any better. She left Gaungzhou a few weeks ago and returned to her home town to live with her mother.

What sorts of gifts should I bring with me for her mother?

when all else fails, ask your fiancée as she knows her family best. Perhaps do your part and have some ideas ready to suggest and see where she directs you from there. Might as well start now, because after you get married, that's just the way it is!

Yes, ask her for advice. She will let you know what her mother wants. But I guess she would not anything from her mother. In China, normally when parents are asked what they want, they will say "nothing, your visit is the best gift". It is not that they try to be polite. It is true. But it doesn¡¯t mean you just come with empty hands. Bring something like chocolates, not expensive cosmetic items, cigarettes, or alcohols which she can use to treat visitors when her relatives/friends know your first visit.
