  1. I got 2000 yuan at a rate of 7.3 to 1 which is right at the global rate now. Fee was $0.95.
  2. My 2 VISA debit cards didn't work out at the Construction Bank ATM, but Agriculture Bank spit out the yuan.
  3. I have a Q2 visa that is good for 10 years; unlimited entries; entries good for 4 months. So I'll have to take a train to Hong Kong every 4 months. Temporary residence permit is unlimited entries; entry good for 1 year. Why could you not re-apply for new residence permit? I'm living in Zengcheng district; a suburb of guangzhou. We have a 1 year lease, but we'll probably move when I find a really nice place. I was married in 2011 and the wife stayed in the USA for 8 years. In 2019 she got stir crazy and came back to China. I don't think that she understood that I couldn't just quit my job and move to China. COVID made things hard. I quit my job and moved to China. China is really hot.
  4. In China forever. It is a new VISA. All older visas still canceled when I applied.
  5. Entered China via Guangzhou on 29 March with a Q2 visa. LAS to ICN to CAN one way was 3000 USD. Hardest thing was getting COVID PCR test in USA. They are still advertised, but hardly anyone still does them.
  6. Is the $50,000/year limit scheduled annualy? If I send $50,000 in December can I send another $50,000 again in January? Or do I have to wait 12 months? I'm assuming that if we want to by a house or apartment in China all of the money has to be there in yuan.
  7. My mother in-law has my wife take the money out of the bank the day it posts. They hide it somewhere in the house. Maybe it's Enya. Do they play Enya in chinese supermarkets?
  8. I'm sending money to my wife through a Bank of China account. She gets it out with a unionpay card. Is there any danger in accumulating 50K yuan in a chinese bank account. 250K? 1 million yuan? Is there any possibility of the money being wiped and then we have no recourse? I was in China in November. They were playing a looped tape of music over the loudspeaker at the grocery store. It was some chines music and some USA music. There was one new age song that was sung in a germanic sounding language. It was a woman singing with a guitar and maybe a flute accompaniment. Anyone know what that song is? I know it's a longshot. Thanks for the replies. I told my wife that we should look for a house in Wuhan. They should be pretty cheap. She didn't thank that it was funny.
  9. hi there, My wife went off the rails and I may soon be living in China. My first question is about mail delivery. If I buy some movies off Amazon- for example- will they show up unmolested at my address? Second question: My debit card lets me get 20000 RMB/day out of an ATM. Is this the best way to convert currency? Is there any legal downside? More questions to follow I'm sure. thanks, ifearyeti
  10. The guy who interviewed Fang read the entire evolution of relationship letter and then looked over all of the photos. We only had six. We had 20 pages of skype messages, but he just glanced at the top one. Then he put her through the paces with about 20 questions. She didn't understand his chinese so they did the whole interview in english. At the end he approved her visa. I think the affidavit of support business is purely a quantitative pass or fail issue. The EOR letter and photos and the interview are somewhat subjective depending on the Consulate Officer. Speaking english probably helps a lot.
  11. We picked up the visa at China Post this morning exactly one week after document turn in. The english translation site didn't show it as available, but the chinese language one did. Good luck sichuan red.
  12. We didn't get any sticker, but we got a pink after a many questioned interview. Fang was given a green cardboard credit card sized card to hold to get her up to the fifth floor.
  13. Thanks tsap seui. I already booked our flights for Friday. We'll go to Seoul and then straight to Las Vegas. I think it's good that our POE is our final destination. Now we'll just have to entertain ourselves for six days.
  14. No visa for me this week. Tuesday is the next possible day. I was hoping to fly back on Monday or Tuesday, but I guess I'll just have to resign myself to staying in Guangzhou until Friday. Friday is the last possible day I can return, so I'll book plane tickets for then and hope for the best.
  15. We walked down to the post office around 1 pm. The lady took our receipt and looked through about 8 packages on a cart, but none of them was ours.
