International Travel after GUZ interview?

Hey all, lots of great info here, so much as I have never even had to ask a question that wasnt already answered! thanks!

 

We just sent back our p3 and are waiting for the interview date. After the interview we would like to go to a beach in Thailand but realize that the Consulate keeps her passport to attach a visa correct?? Does anyone know how long this normally takes? Because, of course, without a passport we cant go anywhere outside China. Anyone else have this predicament?

Normally within just a couple days. But it can sometimes take a week or a bit longer. And, fyi, on very rare occasions you can be met with a blue slip upon picking up the passport/visa at the post office.

Typically in three business days if you wait in Guangzhou and pick it up at the China Post located within the consulate.

3 business days and the post office where you can pick up is only a few blocks away from the consulate. In our case, the visa was approved Monday morning, issued on Thursday, delivered to the Junyuan Post Office that night, and was picked up the next morning.

My wife's passport was mailed to her home and arrived in 5 days via EMS.
