What happened to Car Rental Rates?

Recommended Posts

I have driven in Hunan on several different occasions, of course it helped that in the car were high ranking policemen and government officials each time. When you do business in China one of the perks is being treated like a king at least until the deal is done that is. I did learn from our police friend that if a foreigner is involved in a traffic accident and the police are involved then the foreigner gets to take his car home while the Chinese side has their car impounded until the whole thing is taken care of. I am not sure if it always works this way but according to him this is how it is supposed to work. I would probably have to call him if it ever happened to me to make sure I was safe with my car. On a side note that is why so many fender benders are settled with cash and cigarettes, if the police are involved they usually keep both cars until is figured out, sometimes this involves months, not the days you might be thinking about.

Mark, you can rent a car from a few of the major hotels in Harbin, but the car comes with a driver - they won't let you drive it yourself.  The daily rental price is reasonable, but there's a steep deposit of the equivalent of 2 to 3 thousand dollars US required (the deposit is returned upon the return of the car).

I would have thought since the car came with a driver, the driver would be responsible in making sure the car got returned... Maybe they don't want you to take off with the driver? :P

No, I think he has some sort of yuppie SUV but his dad may have had a Citroen. Seems I recall past post to that effect.

WTF with the forbidden links thing? :)

Mick,

There is some kind of a hot-link blocker on the web page. I am not quite sure how it works as I am seeing the correct pictures.

However, follow this link and it will show you the correct picture of my car (I think), as well as fix all of my broken links after you refresh the page (I hope).

Perhaps I should look for a new web hosting service that isn't so much of a hassle.

I am going to start working on a personal web page.... Not too much there yet.

However, hopefully within a week, I will start putting up MS Word Compatable INS Forms!!!! I have the I-129F mostly finished, and am making headway on the g325a.

Finally got my rental car for Christmas.....

Oh the wonders and the frustrations of http://www.priceline.com

It turns out the the "Economy" cars seemed to be priced higher than the "compact" cars.

Fortunately my departure flight was a midnight flight which allowed me to make 4 "bids" per week.

Even with the added costs, the total priceline cost was just over half the cost of going directly to the rental agencies.
