Would take the Manhattan and Flushing Chinatown any day over Beantown's Chinatown definetly worth the extra drive time. 2 great food markets in Flushing or go a few minutes past and there is a good Korean market and restaruants. Chinatown in Manhattan great places to eat.

I have a Chinese doctor friend who lives in Toronto, and says the Toronto China towns in and around Toronto is better than Boston and NYC.

My wife and I agree. We have been to Toronto, Manhatten and Chicago and Toronto hands down was the best. Manhatten was pretty good though. Chicago was a bit of a disappointment but thankfully Michigan Ave was there to save the day.

Houston has a large population of Chinese (over 25,000) and a Vietnamese population a little higher than that. There is an older Chinatown on the east side of downtown I think (Houston CFL'ers please correct me) and newer one west of Downtown in the Bellaire area (the street signs there are in English and Chinese).

Just outside (west) of the city proper, in Alief I think, is a Chinese community center with a library and regular Peking Opera performances (mostly by resident Taiwanese amateurs; a friend of mine here in Austin goes down there to teach them).

there's also a Chinese news group with a radio station (after all, this is Yao Ming territory!)

Since I started this thread with a Canadian Chinatown, I will add another.

Vancouver BC:

Vancouver has been home to a vibrant Chinese community since the mid-19th century. Today, the city's Chinatown is one of the largest in North America.

If you are looking for an authentic Asian encounter complete with unique architecture, exotic culinary aromas and an array of exotic imported goods, then Chinatown awaits your arrival.

Vancouver's Chinatown

As one of Vancouver's oldest settlements, Chinatown was established even before the lower mainland population was incorporated into the city we know and love. Now, as Canada's largest Chinatown to date (the third largest in North America), this colourful neighbourhood is a prime example of Vancouver's rich cultural heritage.

While it has been the center of Chinese culture in Vancouver for more than a century, it is only incidentally a tourist attraction. It doesn't dress up for visitors, and this is part of its charm. You'll find things here you'll have a hard time finding anyplace else in Vancouver.

Theres a Chinatown in Philadelphia, its not big at first sight but it is set up somewhat like an old Chinese town, with a main tourist street and some back streets that if you didn't know they where there you would never see them, thats where some very good foods are.

Knoxville doesn't really have one except at our house every 3rd Wednesday during the "China ladies Club".

We've been to Chinatown in SF, Toronto, and Atlanta although we didn't spend much time in SF.

I personally liked Toronto. Lily liked all 3, but said "Atlanta not really chinatown but wery good chinese restaurant."

If I remember correctly it was the ¸£ÁÙÃÅ

Oriental Pearl New Peachtree Rd

Chamblee, GA

It reminded me almost exactly of some of the big restaurants in Shenzhen.

Guest Tony n Terrific

In my area comprising of the Cincinnati-Dayton Metro area of 3.2 million people there are 1.5% Asian population. A little over 45,000 and they tend to live in the inner cities. There are 3 Chinese Christian Churches here. We do have a number of Asian markets here as well. I would venture to say the biggest majority of Asains that live here are of Fillipino descent. There is no Chinatown as such located here.

The closest Chinatown would be Chicago about 300 miles away.

It was two years ago next month when we decided, spur of the moment, to head to London Ontario via Michigan to visit Lily's best friend from china who had immigrated to Canada. Took a short day trip from there to Toronto. I believe you or Yu were out of town that weekend. We'll be coming to NY soon and will get together then. Meanwhile, anytime you guys want to head South.......................
