Can petitioner attend interview with applicant?

Hi, all

 

I am currently applying for my wife's IR-1/CR-1. I am curious, come interview time can I accompany her to the interview? The interview will likely be in Canada since that's where she is residing now, but her English is not at the level where she can fluently speak or answer questions in the most accurate manner. Will I be able to attend the interview with her and do the translation for her? Will her level of English be an issue for visa issuance?

There will be VOs who can speak chinese. The only canadian case I know, the lady went alone on the initial interview and could not even give answers well enough in chinese to satisfy them.

 

They refiled; he went to the second interview. the couple was interviewed in two separate rooms; but, I cannot say if that is standard or not.

maybe she can practice English Daily because she does live in Canada and they do speak English there.....

Maybe I am way off base, but I thought a K-3 could be in the country of marriage, but that the CR-1/IR-1 would be in the country of citizenship?

If she is in fact a Chinese citizen, then the CR-1/IR-1 interview would be in Guangzhou, China and the Petitioner would not be allowed to attend. I could be off base, but with the info I read, that's my thinking, Mike & Yizhen

I am pretty sure that you have the interview in the country of your legal residence instead of the country in which you have citizenship.

Since starting our home business over a year ago we have interacted with others that live on the north side of Toronto in Markham and in that area English is a second language, and Chinese (Cantonese) is the first language, one friend or ours there up there is a Mandarin speaker and is not comfortable speaking English. You can find large communities of Chinese in Canada who do not speak any English.

Correct, if the person is in Canada on an residency visa, then they will be interviewed in Montreal.
