Dave G.
I agree...Japan has a lot to fix about the past. But, today's govenment in Japan is not at all like their emperor of WWII. They're having to face N. Korea's nonsense now. They should be able to protect themselves. Face it...Japan is an important part of the world now. They would give that up for nothin'. Link to comment
whoever
You think it was the Emperor of Japan who should be blamed for WWII? Well, think again then. Link to comment
Dave G.
You think it was the Emperor of Japan who should be blamed for WWII? Well, think again then.I admit I'm more familiar with the European side of the time. But, who ordered the attack on Pearl Harbor? Who other than Hitler saught world domination? Who wanted us into the war so badly? Survey says....Emperor of Japan. Link to comment
whoever
no, the Emperor was just a powerless puppet. The real power was in the hands of the military. Emperor was the spirit of Japanese, but military control the Emperor to do what they wanted to do. Link to comment
warpedbored
Just look at what the Japanese is trying to do lately, you will find that they are very unease again. "Pearl Harbor" is a perfect Ninja Style attack. And if we stop keeping close eye on them, they will strike again. The fear that Japan will strike again is ludicrous. Their army is pathetic and it is written into their constitution that they cannot wage war again. Most Japanese I know don't think they should even have an army. By thier constituion even the meager self defence force they do have may be unconstitutional. Should thier government appologise? certainly they should but remember they are asian too and losing face in Japan is every bit as intense as it is in China. Are there right wing wackos in Japan? Yes there are as there are in the USA but they make up a very small minority. I have been to Japan and was married to a Japanese woman for 21 years. Trust me, they aren't interested in invading China anymore. They just want to make money. Link to comment

warpedbored
... I have heard Japanese women would dump their husbands after they retired... because they are considered useless when they have no job?! Well Enight you may have something there although I have not personally known anyone who has done that. Japanese husbands and wives pretty much lead separate lives. The husband goes off to work and entertains clients after work until late hours then comes home. The wife often raises the children mostly by herself. The husband earns the income. I know from personal experience that my ex mother in law was not thrilled about her husband being underfoot once he retired. Things are changing in Japan though. Modern Japanese women want more from life now days and many Japanese men are turning to foreign brides because of this. My oppinion? The Japanese are too stiff and formal for my liking. They are polite to a fault and often it is hard to tell what they really are thinking. I prefer the warmth and openess of the Chinese. My limited experience is Chinese women seem to be very frank and have no trouble at all telling you exactly what they think. I like that much better. Link to comment

Seems Japan's women are learning lessons from the West better not learned.I couldn't agree more. My ex became very americanised and after 21 years of marriage came home from work one day and declared she was in love with her co-worker. What I find disconcerting now is on my trip to China I was reminded of my first visit to Japan in 1980. The way young people are taking to western fashion, music etc. I sincerely hope that China doesn't let thier culture fall to the wayside in favor of western materialism the way Japan has. Many of the traditional arts in Japan are now know to only a few that the goverment considers national treasures. Link to comment
