My wife needs to become fluent in English

Our local community College has a set of courses intended to prepare those whose English is not the native language for College level courses.

 

They didn't call it ESL. It is also college level in structure and intensity.

 

Most of my wife's acquaintances ask her "How long have you been here?" Ans: '3 years.' Then they ask "How come your English is so much better than mine?"

 

I don't recall if you mentioned things around the house and at work. My wife highly recommends no Chinese restaurant work, no Chinese movies and no Chinese special Satellite or cable packages. In fact, just the opposite. English only.

 

Add to that what the other guys said about ESL, College and Vocational Level courses and you are all set.

 

CD's, DVD and Internet- nope. Let her hear and talk in real time with real people. Do those 'computer games' things for fun. But, have a structured program outside the home for true high speed, high level learning.

 

Some localities offer free tutoring.

if they join cfl. us chinese can teach them for free. use web cam etc
