Mid-autumn festival

The skies have been clear here the last two days and the moon has been nothing short of spectacular!

 

We have been eating moon cakes with our friends at every opportunity. Last night we took some to our Romanian neighbors and told them some of the festival stories... about the woman in the moon ...and about the overthrow of the mongols.

Last night we had dinner with friends then after we came home we took some tea, moon cake and water melon out to our patio. We sat in our two seater swing and watched the moon. My wife told me the story of Houyi and Chang'e. We discussed how each culture has it's own legend about the moon and who lives there. It was a peaceful, serene and romantic.

We were supposed to spend the evening eating mooncakes with friends but 9 inches of rain and my parents flooded basement washed away those plans.

How long are mooncakes good for anyway?

We had potluck at our Church where we had good food with good friends, karaoke and my young friend Yuanyuan played her Guzheng for us.

We talked on webcam and hoped that this time next year we would be together

Mooncakes?? I thought she said moon pies so I ran down to the local quickie mart and got her 5 dollars worth.

I understand the webcam thing! I talked to my lady via computer complements of SKYPE and a webcam. I did send a box of moon cakes to my lady in China and just watched her with the box. It is a pain to be seperated from the one you love during these times when family togetherness is so important.
