My lady told me she had to work very late tonight because of the storm. Lots of wind and rain. I have not seen any pictures yet, but by the time the storm hit Hong Kong it was just a tropical storm. If I remember my weather terms correctly that means sustained winds less than 50 mph.

So a bad storm but hopefully not too damaging. The only thing I will say is I have not been able to reach Zhenni via phone but have received an email. I am sure there will be the normal affects of no power, no phone, etc. for a few days but right now all I have seen is lots, and lots of rain. I have not seen any deaths reported yet.

If I hear more I shall post.

Typhoon Nuri hit HKG when our daughter was there on her way back from CKG to LAX. The poor kid had a 20 hour layover in the planned itinerary and it got extended by another 22 hours. JAL would not pay for her room or meals because the typhoon is an act of God. It looks like her delayed flight to NRT will now take off at about 10AM local and she will be able to make a connection NRT to LAX on American Airlines.

She was a bit shook up about all this and I spent a considerable part of the night and early morning hours talking to her. Luckily she had her Macbook in her carry on and we were able to have frequent video chats. Evidently they have free WiFi at HKG.

The poor kid drags in to LAX on Saturday and college classes start on Monday ... at least she'll have a good story to tell.

We're flying out of Baiyun airport to LAX tomorrow. Needless to say, we're keeping close tabs on the weather and the flight status.

Flights were cancelled at Baiyun Airport on Friday, but today they say that it's ok.

Worst that could happen in Guangzhou is some minor flooding and a few fallen trees no matter how bad it gets in Hong Kong. Flooding in Shenzhen could get bad though, but seldom are there deaths.
