China is a developing country, Even super developed country like America has poor people.So...

my parents works in small countryside town, I am raised in a poor where the family monthly income is 700 RMB when i was in primary school We were very happy, I was satified and excited to get 0.5 kuai to buy ice-cream, honestly happy and satisfied, and I experienced my parent's salary increased from 100/month when I was born to some thousands per month now and still increasing. Isn't that inprovement?

 

It's great to have your voice here Wendy as a woman who is from the country. If you don't already know you will discover that the great majority of our wives are urban women...

 

And I'm pleased as punch that your family is doing well in their small town... But there were 50,000 protests in China last year, most of them in rural areas over the issues of concern...Let me give a couple of examples. Suppose that your families' land, and many others, are needed for a new GOLF COURSE... Your family gets not nearly enough compensation for their property that was their livelihood but the local party officials all have new Mercedes... Or imagine that your family grows rubber trees in southern Yunnan province and now all growers MUST sell to a government controlled entity at far lower prices than could be gotten on the open market...but the local party officials all build new villas...

THere was mass starvation during the cultural revolution. The rural poor are much better off now as they can almost always put food on the table. But if you compare people eeking out a living in squalor to people living an obscenely rich lifestyle, the inequalities become more obvious. The improvement in lifestyle since the cultural revolution has occurred throughout China. It's just that some have experienced more improvement than others.

 

Allow me to make a small historical correction Mike...Although I think it is correct to say that the Cultural Revolution was a much greater negative for China than the Great Leap Forward...not that many people died of starvation in the former but did in the latter...Of course the latter was before the former...time-wise...historically speaking...is this quite clear???

One of the beauties of this country is people get to express their opinion without having to monetarily compensate anyone for it.

 

You may not like those opinions but we get to express them nonetheless. Many will hilite the positive aspects of China, of which there are too many to list. But some touch on the negatives aspects which,whether one chooses to believe it or not, actually exist.

 

Whether I choose to spend my money on the poor in China, on the poor in Darfur, on bringing my wife here or on a night at Red Lobster is,frankly, my business.

 

I don't feel obligated to pay for the opportunity to express my opinions just because someone doesn't like them.

I've got mine Bob... I bought it right outside of Mao's Mausoleum on my first visit to China...You know that's in Tiananmen Square...If anyone needs directions here's a map of the area as it was on June 4, 1989... There are many interesting features of this map but I do not recommend you take a copy to China to use in finding your way...

Nevermind.. Maybe Dave is just upset because he fell asleep readin' the Star Bucks novel on which Wal-Mart to take the car to, to get the tire changed, and his cheese sammich fell out of his hand onto the floor (I beleive I read this word somewhere.. I think on CFL )

This is not a uniquely Chinese problem.

 

At the end of the 19th century and well into the 20th century, the disparity between city and rural incomes was STAGGERING in the USA.

 

China is going through the same period in its development. Unfortunately for China there are more media big mouths with electronic communication than ever before so they cannot work privately through this evolutionary problem.

 

BTW - there is still a HUGE disparity between city and rural wages in the USA.

 

 

PS - I fully agree that this is an issue for which China must find solutions.

I know it very well. Everytime it was closed for this or that. Last attempt was during the Party Congress meeting. Lao po asked an officer if we could go in and he responded by sending over a sharp dressed young man to escort us the way out. (We had kinda accidentally bypassed 2 or 3 security check points by that time. )
