georgeandli
It's not the annual salary. It's the perks. You can't get fired, two sets of holidays and retirement package most of us dream of. Plus the added bonus of Godlike power Link to comment
IllinoisDave
Read it again. The salary for a US citizen with legal working status is Not-Ordinarily Residents: FP-5 USD 41, 122 (Starting annual salary, final grade and salary will be determined by Washington)41K a year in China is a kings ransom. I did see that, but wasn't really putting it into perspective... that salary for that position is low for USA wages, but you are correct - in China that is a pretty good penny. I'd work for that if I didn't have to live in GUZ. Funny, to me that is one of the perks! To each his own. Just wasn't that crazy about Guangzhou in the short time we spent there. Admittedly unfair to judge on such limited experience but what can I say. Now put it in Shanghai or Beijing or just about anywhere else and I'm there. Link to comment
GZBILL
They are looking for a local, an overseas Chinese who recently returned to China or a family member of a current expat employed in China. Notice it says you are responsible for obtaining your own work permit / residence permit. That is an almost impossible task for anybody other than those mentioned above. $41k per year is a very crappy expat salary in China. Even for Chinese staff in my company, $41k is not very attractive. Local hires for the US government do not get social security or other civil service perks or retirment benefits. And I personally know the RSO -- anybody working for him better be prepared to work their a$$ off. Link to comment
